JQVeIZtoI":
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH MEIER, OF LEIPSIC, GERMANY.
FLOWER-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,418, dated January 21, 1896. Application filed May 20, 1893. Serial No. 474,978. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH MEJER, of Leipsic, in the Kingdom of Saxony, Germany, have invented a new and useful Flower- Stand, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention, as hereinafter described, and illustrated in the drawings, relates to stands or brackets whereon flowerpots are supported, and its object is to provide flower-stands which are adapted to be mounted in a window-sill'or the like in such a manner that the same may be swung out of the way when it is desired to have access to the window for opening the same and for other purposes. By this arrangement it will not become necessary to disturb or disarrange the flower-pots for such purposes.
It is the object, moreover, by my invention to protect or guard the window-sill against injury and defacement by the flower-pots, and also to provide a support for such flowerpots on very narrow window-sills.
To carry out these objects my invention consists in the features, devices and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a flower-stand embodying my invention in one of its preferred forms, the windows being represented as closed; and Fig. a vertical section of the same on line M M, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a sectional plan of a window provided with my flower-stand, the dotted lines indicating the stand when swung inwardly from the window-frame; Fig. l, a vertical transverse section of the flower-stand, the dotted lines indicating the same as swung away from the window and supported by props. Fig. 5 represents, in sectional plan, a modified form of flower-stand formed in two parts or sections.
The flower-stand is preferably mounted on the inner side of the window, as shown, and consists of the flower-supporting tray or plate B, which may be provided with a railing. This supporting-plate is provided with supporting hooks or pivots a b, which engage eyes or loops d, which are secured either to a carrying-plate or directly to the wall of the apartment. The upper pivot, 1), preferably forms a part of the brace f, so as to enhance the stability and stiffness of the stand. These may also be arranged below the supportingplate in the manner indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, when the same is arranged at a certain distance above the window-sill to make it visible from the outside, in this case the brace f being replaced by a shorter one f, as shown in Fig. 1. In order to provide a still stronger support for the supporting plate or tray B a hinged prop 72 (see Fig. 4) may be secured to the bottom of said tray, the said prop being adapted to be folded down into a vertical position when the stand is swung away from the window, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 4:.
For broad window-openings I prefer to make the flower-stand in two sections, as shown in Fig. 5. Each section in this case is hinged to the one side of the window-opening, and each is thus adapted to be swung inwardly, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 5.
The flower-stand whose essential characteristics have been thus described may be constructed in various ways and may be simple or highly ornamented in form.
WVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a flower stand for windows, the combination, with a carrying plate arranged to be secured to one side of the window casing and provided with an upper, a lower and an intermediate eye, of a tray provided with a lower pivot arranged to enter either the lower or the intermediate eye, and a pair of interchangeable braces, either of which may be pivoted to the tray one having a pivot arranged to engage the upper eye, and the other having a pivot arranged to engage the lower eye, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRITZ MEJER.
