Be it known that I, CHARLES LYMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing -at Clarinda, in the county of Page and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooding-Coops; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in coops for brooding hens.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of arts, as will be hereinafter described an particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through a brooding coop constructed in accordance with the invention taken on line 11 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2, is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a vertical cross-section through the run or yard of the coop looking toward thefront of the house, and showing the door thereof in closed position and arranged to permit the chicks to leave and enter. the house. Fig. 4, is a plan view of the house with thev cover removed. Fig. 5, is a vertical cross-section of the house on line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 6, is a'detail perspective View of the reversible door for closmg the opening in either the house or the yard portion of the coop.

In the embodiment of the invention, I provide a house l, preferably formed of galvanizedl sheet metal andat the front of the house s arranged a yard or run 2. The sides of the run are referably rigidly secured to the sides of tlie house. The house 1 is formed of a series of sheet metal plates detachably secured together at the corners of the house by slip joints 3, which are formed by bending or folding the adjacent edges of the sides, front, and rear sections of the house to form interlocking flanges, which, when slipped together, firmly but detachably secure said parts together.

On the upper edges of the sides and back plates of the house are formed outwardly bent roof or cover retaining flanges 4, which are of suflicient width to contain a series of Ventilating apertures, which are formed ment and disengagement of the roof to the 1 house. y

The lower ends of the sides of the house are bentm inwardly to form floor receiving flanges 8, with which are engaged the floor 9, of the house. The floor 9, is preferably in the form of a tray, around the edges of which are upwardly extending flanges and to the bottom of which, adjacent to the rear edge, is secured a handle 10, by means of which the floor may be removed from the house. ln the front side of the house is formed a door opening 11, along the side edges of which are formed guide flanges 12, with which are slidably engaged a reversible door 13. Below the door opening 11, is formed a row of Ventilating apertures 11. The door 13, has formed along its side edges inwardly bent flanges 14, which are adapted to engage the guide flanges 12, thus slidably and detachably securing the door over the opening 11. In the door 13, adjacent to one end is formed a Ventilating opening 15 covered by a wire screen or netting 16, and in the opposite end of the door is formed a passage 17, of sufficient size to permit the chicks to enter and leave the house but which is not large enough to allow the hen to pass through. When the door is in place with the Ventilating opening at the lower end, neither the chicks nor the hen can leave or enter the house, the screen opening 15, being provided to admit fresh air to the lower portion of the coop, thus driving the foul air out' through the Ventilating apertures 5, in the flanges at the top of the house while preventing the entrance of rats or other pests. When the door is in place with the passage 17, at the lower end, the chicks will be permitted to leave and enter the house while the hen will be confined therein.

The run or yard of the coop comprises sides 18, formed of wire netting, the upper and lower edges and one end of which are bound or covered by metal strips, as shown. The strips at the outer ends of the sides have not in use to close A outk requiring formed thereon lookin flanges 19, with which are adapted to e engaged similar flanges formed on the side edges of the end piece 20 of the yard or run, 2O being preferably formed of sheet metal. In the front end piece 2O is formed' a door opening or passage 21, which is adapted to be closed by thedoor 13, when thesame is the door opening in the house, or if desired, a separate door may be provided to close the opening in the end of the run. rlihe yard or run is adapted tobe closed by a removable cover section 22, formed of netting, bound around the edges with metal strips having downwardly projecting retainin flan es 23, whereby the cover is remova ly he d in place over the yard. By thus connecting the parts of the yard and house together, said parts may be readily separated for cleaning or for packing to facilitate the storing or shipping of the same.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood witha more extended explanation. Having thus described by invention, what l claim is:

A lmockdown'coop comprising side, front said end `piece l meneer and rear sections separably connected at the corners of the coop, upwardly and outwardly inclined flanges on the upper ends of the side and rear sections, said flanges having a plurality. of Ventilating apertures therein, the front section having an inwardl and downwardly inclined top-supporting ange, a top havin inturned flanges on its opposite side edges or slidable engagement with the Iianges on said side sections, the Hanges on said top being narrower than those on the side sections to leave the Ventilating apertures in said side-section anges exposed, a downturned flange on the rear of said cover to form a stop for engagement with the flange on the rear section, said top resting at its front on the flange of the front section and having itslfront edge extended beyond the front section, and a Hoor detachably mounted in said coop, said front section hav .ing a door opening provided with a suitable closure, said front section also having ventilating openings at the lower part thereof.
