These hinges are so constructed that the leaves thereof secured to the top section E may be removed from engagement with the leaves secured to the side section A. This, in the illustrated form of the invention, is accomplished by providing removable pins or cotters 20 engaging the pintles of the hinge leaves constituting the hinges 19.

In like manner the rear door is removably secured to the side section D by similar hinges 2l, having certain leaves thereof secured to the side section D and other leaves secured to the adjacent margin of the end door C, with removable pins or cotters 22 inserted in the pintles of these hinges.

The front door or end Wall B is illustrated as locked to the side section D by means of hasps 23, secured to the adjacent margin of the frame '7 of the end Wall B and with the leaves 24 engaging. locking members 25 suitably fastened in convenient position to the side section D. Padlocks or other locking means, indicated at 26, may be employed for locking the end door Brwith the side sectionD, and thus lock the kennel in settions as by hooks 28 engaging through the mesh or screen material of the side sections.`

, In order to prevent escape of the contents of the sand box F there are provided imperforate side'vmembers 30 and 3l and an end member 32.

These members30, 3l and 32 are hingedly connected to the box F so as to be folded Within the height of theflanges 29 of the box, when collapsed, and to be extended in upright position for use when the kennel is set up. When the kennel is set up, the side members 30, 31 of the sand box are raised to lie against the inner surfaces of the sides A and D of the kennel,` and the end member 32 is raised to lie againstthe surface of the adjacent'end door C; The section 32 maintains the side sections 30 and31 in erect position, as it engages against/the inner surfaces of these sections when raised. For maintaining the end sections 32 in erect position, a hook 33 is applied to the end door C and is adapted to hook over tle upper edge of the end member 32 of the box when this memberV is raised.

ForV preventing movement of the sand box within the kennel, a hook 34Yis suitably attached to the end door'C for engaging a ring 35, or similar instrumentality, attached to the sand box F in convenient position.

Preferably, although not necessarily, the lower margin of the end door C is arranged to terminate a'slight distance above the adjacent flange 29 of the box, so that, if it is necessary to remove the box for cleaning purposes, this may be done by.- disengaging the hooks 33 and 34, collapsing .kennel underneath the rear end door C, Whereupon the box may have its contentsV replenished and cleaned if necessary, and then replaced by sliding it under the rear door C.

The hooks 33 and 34 are suitably secured to the rear door C as by plates 36 and 37 respectively.

It will be observed, that by provision of the space below the lower extremity of the end door C, the sand box F may be removed from and inserted in the kennel without Ahaving to let out the dog or open a door to the kennel. The securement of the pan F adjacent the end door C, by means of the hook 34, serves to close the space by the pan or bo-x When the latter is in position within the kennel.

Kennels of the present invention are especially adaptable for caring for dogs, or other pets, in hotels and apartment houses. The kennels are made in various sizes and may be finished in any desired manner. The kennels when not in use may be folded and stored or When desired for use, may be quickly set up in any convenient place. Such kennels, When used in hotels and apartment houses solve the problem attendant on the keeping of pets in such places as it provides closures or cages for such pets'which may be quickly set up or as quickly collapsed and which because of 100 the novel sand box arrangement may be keptfat all times in a clean and sanitary condition.

The illustrated kennelis shown in Fig. 2 in collapsed position. When it is desired to setup the kennel the side sections A and B are moved to substantially vertical positions andv the top E connected lto the side section A" by insertingv the pins or cotters 20 inthe leaves constituting the hinges 19. The leaves 30, 31 and 32 ofthe sand box are then raisedY to the position shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 andsecuredin raised position by engaging the hook 33 Withthe end leaf 32. -The rear door or end section C is, then secured in 120 closed position by inserting the pins or cotters 22 in the leaves constituting the hinges 2l. The dog or other animal may then be placed vwithin the kennel through the opening formed'by the front ,a end Wall or door B and this door then closed and 125 locked in thezmanner'heretofore described.

Whenever it is necessary to remove the sand box F from the kennel, for cleaning or other purposes, the hook 33 is disengagedv fromthe end leaf 32, this leaf then folded downwardlyvwhereupon the 130 side leaves 30 and 31 may be folded, all the leaves being thus folded in overlying'position with respect to the box. The hook 34 is then disengaged from its locking connection with the sand box, I and the b'oxthen Withdrawn through the space 135 beneath the lower margin of the rear door or section4 C. The box may be Ycleaned and contents replenished With fresh sand and it again inserted through this space into the kennel. When soin- 1 serted it is locked by engagement of the hook 34 140 with the ring 35, the side sections may be'raised and locked in upstanding position by engagement of the hook 33 With the end Wall or leaf 32. lIt will be observed thatthe sand box may be removed from and applied tothe lkennel Without '145 having to open a door thereof and thus allowing escape ofthe contained animal. The leaves 30,31 and 32 of the sandbox fold ifo .Within the compass of the flanges of'this box, so

that when the kennel is collapsed the box may be collapsed within the kennel and therein contained at all times.

When it is desired to collapse the kennel, the pins or pintles 22 are removed from the leaves constituting the hinges 21, the rear door or section C then swung away from closed position, the front door B is unlocked and swung away from closed position, the pins or pintles 20 of the leaves constituting the hinges 19 are then removed and the top E folded atwise against the side section D. The leaves 30, 31 and 32 of the sand box are collapsed and the end doors B and D are then folded against the outer surface of the side section A. This section is then folded in overlying position with respect to the bottom 1, and the other side section with the top E is then folded atop the side section A.

The invention has been described herein more or less precisely as to details, yet it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited thereby, as changes may be made in the arrangement and proportion of parts, and equivalents may be substituted, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

The invention is claimed as follows:

1. A collapsible kennel having hingedly connected top and bottom members and side and end walls, and an excreta pan slidable into and out of said kennel, one of said hinged walls stopping short oi the bottom member to provide an opening through which said pan may be removed and inserted Without having to open the kennel, said shortened wall and said pan having hook means for securing said pan against displacement in said kennel and in position for closing said opening.

2. A collapsible kennel for an animal comprising an imperforate bottom, and sides, ends, and top of mesh or screen material; said sides being hinged to said bottom, said ends being hingedly connected to said sides, and said top being hingedly connected to said sides; one of said end members stopping short of the bottom to provide a space between said bottom and the adjacent margin of said end member; and a removable sand box insertable through said space and adapted to close said space when inserted in said kennel; said box and said short end member having cooperating locking means for preventing dislodgment of the box with respect to said space and for securing said box in position for closing said space or opening.
