Description

PATENTI @Frictia CHARLES w. isNEAD, oF MILLEDGEVILLE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l07,973,`dated October 4, 1870.
To all whom it may concern: y
Be it known that I7 CHARLES W. SNEAD, of Milledgeville, in the county of Baldwin and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Fgure 1 is a view inf perspective, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
This invention has Vfor its objectimprove-- ment in that class of plo'ws in which the share 'is secured between the brace or standard and the stock by-means ot a shackle and wedge. This construction adapts the sameplow to be used with various sizes or forms ot shares, according to the varying conditions of soil or the particular treatment most desirable to give it, with no other expense than that involved in Lproviding the shares themselves. The change from one share to another can also he ei'ected in a moment and without the aid of a Wrench or other analogous device.
My invention consists in the-arrangement or a stock yhavin g horizontal arms, with a link or shackle and a wedge, whereby the share' is braced and held firmly in place, as hereinafter described.
^ In the drawings, A is the plow-beam; a, the
bifurcated standard; b, the curved brace; c, the loop, and el the tooth extending back from the same; e, the pivoted stock;f, the foot-piece ofthe same; h, the horizontal arms of the footpiece; i, the share, and 7c the wedge.
I am aware that the clamping ot' the shareby means ot' a-loop and wedge in rear of the stock is no new thing; hut heretofore the shares have not been braced and held in place in such a manner as tovprevcnt displacement, slight oscillatiomor even twisting or breaking of them and the fastening devices. By my improvement the share is provided with a bed nearly or quite its own width without materially increasing the weight or impairing `the efliciency ot' the plow. By this provision, also, the shackle may be used without being riveted to the brace or stock, and is in no danger ot' becoming lost or displaced.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the standard e, horizontal-arms It, link or shackle c, and wedgellc, as rshown and described, and'onthe purpose set forth.
CHARLES W. SNEAD. WVi tnesses:
T. W. WHITE, LYMAN H. GoMP'roN.
