DETACHABLE TAB FOR (DOLLARS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14,1913.
Application filed March 29, 1912. Serial No. 687,077.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES PENRUD- DOCKE BAND, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 36 Toronto street, in the city of Toronto, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Tabs for Collars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in detachable tabs for collars and the objects of the invention are to avoid the annoyance and untidy appearance caused by the waist coat or coat of the wearer creeping beneath the lower edge of the outer fold of the collar.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention in use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the collar having the invention applied thereto. Fig. 8 is a sectional detail of the invention. Fig. 4c is a perspective view of the tab as shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a collar of the ordinary stand-up turn down type having a neck band 10 and outer turned down fold 11. In accordance with the present invention, means such as detachable tabs 12, are detachably secured to the outer lower edge of the fold 11 adapted to extend beneath the waist coat or coat of the wearer and prevent the waist coat or coat from entering beneath the edge of the collar and shirt. As many of these tabs may be provided as desired, I have found it sufiicient to provide one on each side of the collar as shown, said tabs being preferably of the same material as the collar and adapted to lie flatly on the shirt bosom, being of the same color as the collar and generally of the same color as the shirt, are quite inconspicuous and occupy practically no space.
The tabs 12 are formed separately from the collar as shown in Figs. 3 and 4E and attached to the inside of the collar as by a metal hook 13 adapted to extend into a pocket 14 on the inside of the collar.
It will be understood that the hook or loop 13 is adapted to be readily inserted within or withdrawn from the pocket l l. To this end the pocket 14 is of such a size as to tightly receive the hook.
It will be readily appreciated that frequently it may be desirable to remove the tabs from the collar as when the latter is worn without a vest.
As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claims, con structed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a collar of the stand-up turn-clown type having a neck band and an outer turned down fold, a pocket formed in the turned down fold, and a tab having a loop thereon adapted to be removably inserted within said pocket.
2. A collar comprising a neck band and an outer turned down fold, a pocket formed between said neck band and said outer turned down fold, and a tab detachably secured to said pocket.
3. A collar of the stand up turn down type having detachable tabs on the outer edge adapted to fit beneath the vest of the wearer.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES PENRUDDOCKE BAND.
