' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 7,1913.
Application filed September 14, 1912. Serial Na-720,362. Y
Be fit known-that I, JOHN MORRISON,-
Jr., a citizen of the United States, and
a resident of Glens Falls, in the county of VVarren and State of New York, have in- Vented a new and Improved Table-Archery,
of which the following is a' full, clear, and
- exact description.
This invent on relates to games, and, more particularly, to table archery, the game be-. ing characterized by a target board of peculiar construction adapted to be used with a number of darts or arrows, the coaction of the parts being such that the target will retain the darts or arrows'when brought into engagement therewith.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a game of table archery made up of a target with a number of darts or arrows, the face of the target being composed essentially of a number of relatively movable projecting portions in the nature of bristles and the like, with which the end of the dart or arrow, also provided with movable projections such as bristles or the like, is adapted to engage, the interengagem'ent of the projecting portions of the target and the dart or arrow sewing to maintain the dart or arrow extending from the target at the point where it struck-the same.-
It is of some importance in the production of games of this class that'the parts used, especially those which are hurled, be of such a nature that they will not injure a person who happens to be struck thereby, and the structure set forth insures such freedom from injury.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying' drawings, forming part of this specificaviews, and in whicht-ion, in which similar charactersof reference denote corresponding parts in all the Figure 1 is a perspective view of the target and a dart extending therefrom; Fig. 2 is a side view of a dart.
The target is made up principally of a base 1 having a large number of projecting elements or'portions 2 extending therefrom and covering substantially the whole side thereof, the base being supported in any suitable manner, as by means of standards 3.\
The outer ends of the movable projections 2, which may be said to be in the na'tdre of bristles, lie closely together, the central portion 4 being much darker than the surrounding portion 5, whereby the appearance of a target with the bulls eye. is provided.
The dart or arrow comprises an element, such as a rod or stick 6, having a number of movable projections such as bristles 7 extending from one end the'reot',the idea being that, when the dart or arrow 6 is hurled at the target, the interengagement of the bristles 7 with the bristles 5 will maintain the parts in the position shown in Fig. l. i
The target is of very much greater superficial area than the bristle end of the dart or arrow so that any number of darts or arrows may be thrown at the target and be retained in position therein.
The game is esneciallv intended for indoor use and the darts or arrows may be thrown at the target with little. fear of injury to persons near by because of the bristled end thereof. The darts may be hurled by hand at the target, or they may take the form of arrows and be projected from a suitable bow;
It is, of course, obvious that the size of the target is immaterial and that the size of the darts or arrows used is also immaterial, it being borne in mind that the area of the target is many times greater than the area of the end of the dart or arrow so that a large number of darts or arrows may be carried at the same time by the target.
laving thus described my' invention. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination of a base suitably supported in position, one side of the base being provided with a large number of closely positioned projections such as bristles, the bristles at the central portion' ofthe base being much darker than at the sur rounding portions, whereby the appearance of a target is presented, with a dart, the
provided With a large number of closely p0- sitionsd prajecting' b1'ist1'%s, the bristles being isposed substantia 1y arallel with K each other, and having target markings JOHh E )AK thereon, and a' dart having -a number of Witnesses: projecting bristles. ANITA J Monmsox,

name to this specification in' tiic'dof' two subscnbmg Witnesses.
