T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that T, RICHARD P. HABEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sturgis, in the county of Meade and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in monkey wrenches, and is primarily adapted for employment in corners or close places where an ordinary wrench not provided with angular jaws could not be conveniently used.

The primary objects of the invention are the provision of a wrench embodying a straight handle provided with a pivoted stationary jaw and means for sustaining the said stationary jaw at a desired angle with relation to the handle, and further to provide the stationary jaw with a co-acting movable jaw.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a wrench of this character which will embody the desirable features of strength, durability, simplicity and cheapness in manufacture.

lVith the above recited objects in view,the improvements reside in the construction, combination, and operative arrangement of parts set forth in the following description, and falling within the scope of the appended claim.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wrench constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken approXimately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates the handle of the wrench, which has one of its ends offset in opposite directions to provide a gripping or turning head 2. The opposite free end of the handle is enlarged and bifurcated to provide a pair of spaced ears 3. These ears are formed with suitable openings through which passes the shank 4 of a headed meinber 5.

The numeral 6 designates, what T term, the stationary head of the Wrench. This head is provided with the usual jaw 7, and is further provided with a rearwardly eX- tending integrally formed sleeve S. This sleeve is adapted to be received between the ears 3, and to be engaged by the shank 4 of the member 5. The rear of the member 6 above the sleeve 8 has its opposite ends or edges reduced as designated by the numeral 9.

The numeral 10 designates a washer which is arranged upon the threaded shank 4 and which has one of its ends bifurcated to provide oppositely extending arms 11, the same frictionally engaging with the walls provided by the reduced portions 9 of the head 6.

The numeral 12 designates a thumb nut which co-acts with the threaded shank 4 and which bears against the washer 10 to effectively sustain the head 6 at a desired angular position with relation to the handle 1. The head 6 adjacent its sleeve 8 is formed with a substantially rectangular opening 13 within which is arranged a screw 14. This screw is removably retained within the head through the medium of a removable member 15, and the said screw is rotatable upon the said member.

The numeral 16 designates the movable jaw for the device. This jaw has its rear portion provided with a suitable shank which is arranged within an opening or passage formed in the head 6, and the said shank 17 is provided with spaced depressions forming threads or teeth which are adapted to co-act with the screw 14, and whereby the jaw 1G may be slid toward or away from the aw 7 as required.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device, as well as the advantages thereof, will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such inventions appertain without further detailed description.

The engaging faces of the jaws, as shown, are preferably formed with teeth.
