member 2 having the tapered interior sur- 'fac'es indicated by 3. The socket member is-secured to the post by means of the bolt el and nut 5. It will be noted that by having the interior of the socket tapered from either end that the socket may be reversed at any time.
The numeral 6 represents a. socket mem- To all whom tmag/ concern Be it known that I, ERNEST H.' WOELFFEL,
Point Pleasant, in the county of Mason and State 'of fest Virginia, have invented a new and useful Corner-PostFastener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in corner post fasteners for beds.
The object ofthe invention is the ,provi' sion of a device of this character which can be used with the three piece form of bed in which the springs and side rails fo-rm one member, or the old form of bed in which the springs are made separate from theside rails. l
With these Aand other objects 'in view which will appearas the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts land in the .details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the -invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figurel is a perspective showing my device attached to three piece form. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the three piece form. Fig. 3 is a detail of the hook for the three piece form. Fig. 4 is a perspective showing the form for separatethe spring section and formed integral with the socket member is .the forked hook 8 and lthe upward extension 9 to which may 'be se* cured the v'cross rail 10 of the spring frame. As will be noted the hook member 8 is tapered to fit the socket. provided for properly :spacing the socket members.
ing' the socket isV made of greater width than the hook member so as to leave the space indicated at-12. This will allow for a certain amount of lee-way in the adjustment of the socket members and side rails. As will be noted the forked hook member. straddles the bolt 4. v vhic h passes through the socket member. Strengthening ribs 13 are provided extending from the hook member 8 to the upward extension 9.
In Figs. 4 and 5 which represent my invention as applied to that form of bed using the separate side rails the numeral 1 1 represents the post and 15 the socket members secured thereto by means of the bolts as described .for Figs. 1 and 2. In this form of the invention I provide the angle iron socket member 16 provided with the iianges 17 adapted to receive the side rails 18. Formed integral with this socket member is thetapered hook member 19 lwhich is-adapted to enter the socket and straddle the bolt members as described in Figs. 1 and 2. In this form of my invention as in the previously hook member inverted. Fig. G is a modified In the manufacture of iron beds there is that'form known as the three piece bed, comprising the head and foot sections and the .spring section which includes the side are made a separate part from the spring member. y f
Myinvention is particularly adapted for either form of bed and in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings I have illustrated the form of `than the hook member so asto allow-.for any irregularities in the adjustment of the several parts.
In Fig. 6 Ihave illustrated a modified form of the socket member which may be used with either form of myinvention and as will be noted this consists of the socket member 20 provided with the integral eX- ofbed and in Figs. 4 and 5 have shown thatform used on the bed in which the side rails and springs are formed separately.
In describing the invention I will lirst referto the form of the invention illustrat'edi'n Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and the numeral lfin'difcates the bed post of ordinary construction 'to which 1s secured'the socket may be secured.
From the above description it will be A spacing bar 11 is ber adapted to receive the side rails 7 ot1` As clearly shown in Fig.' lof the drawdescribed form the Isocket is of greater width tension 21 to which the head or foot rail .22
noted that I have provided a simple form '.110
of cerner fastener which can be used' with either form of bed and b having the socket member of greater wi th vthan the hook member and having the hook member teipered,4 the hook memberwill adjust itself in the socket member.
Having fully described my' invention which I claim and desire te secure by Letters Patent is t1. A device of the class described, comprising a reversible socket member secured to a post by a bolt passing through the post and socket member, and a tapered vforked hook member adapted to straddle the bolt, said hook member havingran integrel'soeket for receiving the end of aside rail, and an upwardly extending extension for receivingY 'an end rail.
'2. A device of the class described comprisin e reversible ,tapered socket member In testimony that I chum in the presence of two witnesses.-
