RAIL-BRACE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 28, 191d.
Application filed May 31, 1910. Serial No. 564,107.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that 1. JOHN E. CONLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Rail-Braces, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rail braces and has for its object to provide a new and improved device of this description.
The invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view showing the rail brace in position; Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of F 1; Fig. 3 is a view of the rail brace separated from the rail.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several figures.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a rail brace simple in construction and yet strong and durable so as to give effectiveservice and to utilize the material in the brace so as to give a great resisting power with a small amount of metal.
Referring now to the drawings 1 have shown the rail brace l in Figs. 1 and 2 in position to brace the rail 2. The brace is provided with a loop 3, the top of which preferably engages the head of the rail fitting snugly thereunder. The branch at engages the web and base of the rail. land of the loop are connected together by a connecting piece 6 preferably integral there with, which also preferably engages the base of the rail and which is cut away to receive said base. as shown, being provided with a shoulder 7 adapted to engage the base of the rail, thus giving it a double resisting contact with the rail, one at the web, the other at the base. lhe brace is preferably provided with a large base 8 having holes 9 suitably spaced to permit the easy driving of spikes or other holding devices. A rib 10 in line with the connecting piece 6 connects the branch 5 of the loop 3 with the base 8. It will be noted that this rail brace has contact at all vital points.
I claim:
1. A. rail brace comprising a loop adapted to fit snugly under the head of the rail and provided with two branches, one branch engaging the web or the rail and substantially The branches parallel thereto, a connecting member between the two branches and integral therewith a connecting rib between the loop and the base and engaging the ball of the rail and the base thereof and a base connected with said loop.
2. A rail brace comprising a loop with the closed end at the top, said closed end adapted to engage the head of the rail and provided with two branches, one of which engages the web and a central connecting member cut away to receive the base of the rail and provided with a shoulder which engages the base of the rail and a base at one side of said loop and integral therewith, by means of which the rail brace is fastened to a support.
8. A rail brace comprising a loop adapted to fit beneath the head of the rail and provided with two branches one of which engages the head of the rail, a connecting member between said branches and integral therewith, said connecting member cut away to receive the base or" the rail, an engaging face at the bottom of the brace for engaging the vertical face of the rail base, a base connected with said loop and integral therewith and a projecting rib connecting the base and loop and in line with said connecting piece.
4. A rail brace comprising a loop having one branch extending between the head and base of the rail and engaging the web of said rail, an intermediate connecting piece integrally attached to the branches of said loop and an intermediate rib on the outside of said loop in alinement with the connecting piece and having a portion which engages the ball of the rail and a base with which said rib is integrally connected.
5. A rail brace comprising a loop having one branch extending between the head and base of the rail and engaging the web of said rail, an intermediate connecting piece integrally attached to the branches of said loop and an intermediate rib on the outside of said loop in alinement with the connecting piece and having a portion which engages the ball of the rail and a base with which said rib is integrally connected. said base provided with holes on opposite sides of said rib for the holding devices.
6. A rail brace comprising a loop having one branch extending between the head and base of the rail and engaging the web of said mil, an intern'lediate connecting piece in- 3 provided With holes on opposite sides of tegralh attached to the branches of said 100p said 100p and a hole in alinenient with said and an intermediate rib 0n the outside of rib for a holding device.
said loop in alinenient With the connecting JOHN E. OONL'EY. piece and having a portion which engages Vitnesses: the hall of the rail and a base with which g EDNA K. REYNOLDS, said rib is integrally connected, said basei DONALD M. CARTER.
