Description

(N0 ModeL) H. PRANKE.
LOGK' PLATE FOR PORTABLE RAILWAYS. No. 315,606. Patented Apr, '14, 1885.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR F g BY MM- ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT tribe.
HENRY FRANKIE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
LOCK-PLATE FOR PORTABLE RAILWAYS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,606, dated April 14:, 1885.
Application filed December 11, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY FRANKIE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in LoclzPlates for Portable Railways, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement upon the invention for which a patent was issued to A. Bass for improvement in portable railways, No. 164,252, June 8, 1875, and is as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal view, partly in section, through the ends of two sections of a portable railway, showing the locking device in side View. of a portable railway, showing the lock in position. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my locking device.
Similarletters refer to similar parts th roughout the several views.
This invention relates to portable railways; and it consists in a locking device to prevent longitudinal displacement of the sections thereof. To attain this object, I secure to the end ties or cross-pieces a a, connecting the rails A A of each section, the plates F, by riveting one end of each to a cross-tie, a. The
other end of the plate F is formed into a hoolr,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of sections f. This hook f projects so far beyond the end of the section to which itissecured that it will hook over the end tie a. of the adjoining section, preventing longitudinal displacement. The plate F may also be bent slightly upward, as shown in Fig. 1, to facilitate laying curves or differentangles of grading. Each end tie a generally has two of'the hook-plates F secured to it, the hooks on each end of two adjoining sections engaging with the end tie of the other, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, thus forming a perfect lock.
I am aware that prior to my invention portable railway-sections have been made with straight lapping pieces securing against lateral motion. I therefore do not claim such a combination, broadly; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in a portable railway, of the rails A A and end ties a a with the lockplates F, having the hooksf, as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
Signed at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, this 5th day of December, A. D. 188i.
HENRY FRANKIE).
