LEANDER OARMAN AND ALEXANDER O. OARMAN, OF MGOOYS STATION, OHIO.
IM PROVEM ENT IN CLOTHES-BASKETS.
Specification ibrming part ct' Letters Patent No. 107,446, dated September 20, 1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, LEANDER GARMAN and ALEXANDER C. GARMAN, both of McCoys Station, in the county of Jefferson and State ot' Ohio, have invented a new article of manuf facture-viz., a Basket for Clothes, Src.; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being h ad to the accompanying drawv part of our specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of our basket, as a new article of manufacture. Fig. 2 is a transverse and vertical section ot' the same. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same. Fig. 4 is a top view of the basket when the lid is removed.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the body of the basket. Brepresents its lid. The strips x and are made of any suitable wood, and ofthe desired width and thickness, and then secured between the pieces m and n for body A, and between the pieces h and fi for the lid, arranging the strips x so that they will be at an oblique .ngle to the strips a2'.
The strips are then secured between the pieces h and t when for lid B, or between the pieces m and n when for the body A, by means ot rivets or nails. The strips are then wove so as to overlap and underlap each other, and form a double thickness throughout each part of the basket. The strips w' and a," are finally secured between the anges or bands e and j' for the lid, and between the iianges e' andj" for the body, said flanges or bands being so arranged with rela-tion to each other that band c of the lid will tit over the band f of the body, thereby forming a bearing for the lid upon the body of the basket. The handles o are secured to the band c of the body of the basket.
The advantage of constructing a basket as hereinbefore described consists in the double thickness of the strips when wove in the basket, and the combination of the strips with the center pieces, bands, and rivets, whereby strength and durability is obtained.
Having thus described the nature and construction ot our improvement, what we claim as of our invention is A new article of m anufacture-viz., the hercinbefore described basket and its lid, constructed of strips overlapping and underlapping each other, and arranged at an oblique angle to each other, and held together by center pieces, bands, and rivets, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
