Be it known that I, JOHAN PARTMANN, a subject of the King'of Hungary, and a resident ofthe city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the countyandState of New York, have invented a new and Improved open the bag and remove the contents thereof in the manner in which these thieves are in the habit of working.

Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a bag, showing my improvement; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view showing the means for operating the lock; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing how the lever is mounted which is used to connect the members disposed in the hollowhandle and in the hollow rod; and Fig. 1 is a sectional View on the linel-1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 3; and 6 is a sectional view on the line 66 of Fig. 1.

By. referring to the drawings it will be seen that the bag 10 has a mouth, at one side of which there is a frame member- 11, which is normally disposed under the frame member 12, mounted on'the other side of the bag 10. Disposed over the frame member, 11 there is a loci; member 13, which has a'member let, which normally projects in the look member 15, secured at the outer side of the frame 12. This member 14 has an opening 16, through which the bolt 17 is normally disposed. This bolt 17 is disposed in guide members 18 in the lock member 15, and it projects through the hollow rod 19, whichis mounted for rotating in the opening 20. At one end of the lock member 15 there is another rod21, which is mounted for rotating in an opening in the other end Specification of Letters Patent.

22 of the lock member 15. These rods 19 and 21 also have outer projections 23, which are mounted for rotating in the bearing members 2%, secured to the side of the bag to which the lock member 15 is secured.

Secured to the rods 19 and 21 for rotating therewith, there is a handle 25, having a hollow portion 26 in which is disposed a curved member 27, the lower end 23 of which is articulated-to the arm 29 of the lever 30, this lever 30 being fulcrumed at 31, to the bearing member 32, secured to the hollow handle 25, as best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. To the'other arm 33 of the lever 30, there is secured a member 3&1, this member being also secured at 35 to the bolt 17.

To the upper portion of the member 27 there is secured a connecting member 36, this connecting member 36 having laterally extending pins 37, and having its end 33 engaging the spring 39, the end 40 of the said spring pressing against the stop 4E1, secured in the hollow handle 25. Projecting through the opening 12 in the handle member 35, there is a trigger member 13, this trigger member 43 having curved arms 4: 1, for engaging the pins 37. It will therefore be seen that when the trigger member 43 is held against the handle 25, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the member 36 and the member 27 will be pressed by the spring 39 outward, and downward, to press the member 34 inward, by means of the lever 30, and as the bolt 17 is secured to this member 3-1, the bolt will be moved into the opening 16 in the member 14:, thereby holding the lock member 13 in position relatively to the lock member 15, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings. As the trigger 4:3 is disposed in a convenient place, where it may be inclosed by the hand of the person who carries the bag 10, by its handle 25, it will be impossible for any person to open the bag, without first disengaging the hand of the person who is carrying the bag. The bag may be unlocked by moving the trigger to the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A bag having a lock, and a hollow' which the other arm of the lever is adapted for operating the lock.

2. A bag having a lock and a hollow handle, a lever fulcrumed adjacent the connection of the hollow handle with the body of the bag, a member in the handle engaging one arm of the lever, means bywhieh the other arm of the lever is adapted for operating the lock, and resilient means for holding the member yieldingly in a predetermined position.

3. A bag having a lock and a hollow handle with an opening, a member in the handle, means by which the member is adapted for operating the lock, a trigger extending through the opening in the handle and having a curved arm, means with a pin secured to the member and with the pin engaged by the curved arm, and a spring in the handle for engaging the second means.

4. A bag having a lock and a hollow handle, there being an opening from the interior of the handle through its outer surface, a member in the handle, means by which the member is adapted for operating the look, a trigger member articulated to the first member and extending through the opening, the trigger member having sides for engaging the outer side of the handle, and a spring in the handle for engaging the first member to hold the first member in a predetern'iined position relatively to the handle.

5. A bag having a lock member, two rods mounted for turning on the lock member, one of the rods being hollow, a bolt for the lock member, a hollow handle secured to the rods for rotating therewith, a member in the hollow handle, means by which the member is adapted for operating the bolt, means rfor by the bolt;

6. A bag having a lock member, tworods mounted for turning on the lock member,

7. A bag havinga lock membentwo rods mounted for turning on the lock member,

one of the rods being hollow, a bolt for the lock member, a hollow handle secured to the rods for rotating therewith, a member in l the hollowhan-dle, a lever to which the last member is articulated, means connecting the another lock member on the bag for engagement with the bolt, and a sprlngior holding 6 lever with the bolt for operating the latter,

the member and the hollow handle yieldinglyin a predetermined position.
