To aZZ 'LU/LOWL 2'25 may concern Be it known that I, JAcon SHERMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 1808 Prospect- Place, Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Pockets for Garments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a novel form of safety pocket for garments.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a capacious garment pocket which shall be so constructed that any attempt at unauthorized removal of articles therefrom may be readily detected and. frustrated.

A further object is to provide a pocket which shall be divided into a plurality of compartments or divisions, of which one compartment, preferably the outer one, will be readily accessible while the inner compartment, or compartments, will be protected by any suitable guard, such as a flap which may be removably secured over the mouth of the inner pocket compartment or compartments.

Other objects and advantages of the invention, and. its detail structure will be clearly disclosed in the following specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my novel form of pocket, a part of the front fabric or material being broken away; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the pocket in distended position; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of F 1; Fig. 1 is a view, similar to Fig. 3, of a modified form of the invention in which a plurality of compartments are designed to be protected by a guard; and Fig. 5 is a similar view of a further modified. form in which a plurality of compartments are designed to remain uncovered.

lcty novel form of pocket may be made of any desired material, such as fabric or the like and, as shown in the drawing and particularly Figs. 1 to 3 thereof, it includes the web 10 forming one wall, to the upper part of which is secured the guard 11, which is shown as a fabric flap secured to the web 10 by the line of stitching 12. Arranged parallel to the web 10 is a second web 13 which shorter than the web 10 and is se cured to the latter by the line of stitching 14. The space between the webs or walls 10 and 13 forms the pocket or compartment 15 designed to be protected by the guard 11.

rittached to the upper end of the wall 13 by the line of stitches 16 is a fabric web 17 which, with the web 18 sewed to the web 17 at 19, forms the second pocket or compartment 20 which may be left open, except as it may he covered by the usual pocket flap iwhich is ordinarily sewed to a garment.

The several webs or walls 10, 13, 1'? and 18 are parallel to each other and secured togethcr by lines of stitches as described. The walls 10 and 18 are longer or higher than the intermediate walls, in order that said walls 1.0 and 18 may be sewed to opposite parts of the material of the garment in which the pocket is placed.

The guard member above referred to is preferably formed as a fabric flap l1, sewed at 12 to the wall 10 near the upper end thereof. In order that the guard 11 may be removably secured over the pocket compartment 15, I provide suitable engaging means on the flap and the wall 17. The engaging means may be of any suitable construction, that shown in the drawing comprising a button 23 on the wall 17 and a button hole 24 formed approximately in the center of the flap 11 near the outer edge thereof.

The outer compartment 20 may be used to receive articles of comparatively little value to which quick access is desired. The inner compartment 15 may contain more valuable objects, which may be guarded against unauthorized removal by buttoning the flap 11 to the button 28, thus covering the mouth of the pocket 15. If an attemptbe made to pick the pocket, only the outer pocket 20 will be readily accessible, and even if the pickpocket should know of the inner compartment 15, the manipulation necessary to free the guard flap 11 from the button 28 would suflice to warn the wearer of the attempt at pocket picking.

The modified forms of the invention shown in Figs. 4: and 5, correspond in essential principles and features of construction with the preferred form. In Fig. 4 there are two inner compartments 15 and 15 the mouths of which are adapted to be covered by the guard flap 11, having the button hole 24' designed to engage the button 23 which projects into the outer or unguarded pocket 20. In. Fig. 5 there are two inner compartments 15 15 and two outer or un guarded compartments 20, 20. The flap 11, provided with the button hole 2%, is designed to engage the button 23* which projects into the compartment '20. The manner of using the modified forms of pocket is the same as the manner of using the preferred form, and a separate description thereof is deemed unnecessary.

hat I claim is 1. A safety pocket, embodying therein an inner and an outer wall, intermediate walls shorter than said inner and outer walls, all of said walls being connected together alternately at their upper and lower edges a flap secured to said inner wall near its upper edge, securing means formed in said flap near the lower edge thereof and means on one of said intermediate walls near its lower edge for engaging the securing means formed in said flap.

2. A safety pocket embodying therein an inner and an outer wall, intermediate walls shorter than said inner and outer walls, the upper edges of said intermediate walls being connected together, the lower edges of said intermediate walls being connected to the lower edges of said inner and outer walls, respectively, a flap secured to the inner face of said inner wall near its upper edge, securing means formed in said flap near the lower edge thereof and means on one of said intermediate walls near its extreme lower edge for engaging the securing means formed in said flap.
