CARD-NDEX CASE.
i ,oet-raw.
'Specification of Letters Eater/rt.
Patented Ane'. 5 1913.
Application filed March 18, 1910. Serial No. 550,171.
To all arf/mm it may concern:
lle it ltnowu that l, Fairer; il. SAMrsoN. a resident of Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fard-ndex Cases; and l do hereloy declare the i'ollowinp; to he a full7 clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to drawers of callinets, tilingF cases7 etc., and more particularly to the follower or device for holding the cards or envelops compacted together in the case.
ihe object of my invention is to provide a device of this Character which simple in eonstrnction and ellieient in operation so as to lock the follower securely in place at any position to which it is moved, and to these ends my invention comprises the novel features hereinafter set lforth and claimed.
ln the accompanying drawino', Figure 1 is a perspeetive view partly broken away of my improved drawer; Fig. 2 is a front view of the follower', the vdrawerlaiiner shown in section; Fie. 2? is a section on the line 5l 3, Q; Fig. 4 is a perspective view ol the follower showingV the bottom thereof.
ln the d rawingrs the numeral 2 designates a suitable drawer or receptacle which may he formed of sheet metal. The hottonr of the drawer is pressed in suitahie dies to l'orm the rihs or yhearings El, and the Central ril leeured to the central rih l is the .strip `or har 5 which extends from one end of the case to the other. said strip heilig riveted or otherwise secured tothe rih el. rl`his construction provides the guide-ways o hetween the bottom of the drawer and the lower faire of the strip The strip is provided with the roughened or indented upper face T, which may he in the form of seri-ations or other depressions givingy a rouehencd face. y
One end of the strip o is not away on one side, as at 8, for the purpose more fully llereiiiafter set forth.
The follower ll comprises the vertical plate 'l l and the tlange the flange 12 heine' eut to form the nuide lugs 13 which are formed h v depressing' the flange at thesepoints engage at. opposite sides the lower faces of the har 5, said lugs projecting into the guide spaces 6 at each side of said har.
T he dog' or locking member 14 is mounted and these guide-lugs are adapted to on the follower and said follower has the lugs l struek up therefrom in which the dog lll mounted. rlhe dogY 14- has the studs 1G which enter openings 17 formed in the lues The jaws 18 of the dog are adapted to enter the slots 19 formed hy cutting' the metal to form the guide lugs 13 and said jaws in this way are adapted to engage the serrated or ronghened. portions of the strip 5. A spring 2O is interposed between the follower plate 11 and the dog 14, said spring being secured to said dog'. lllhen the jaws of the dog engage the roughened faces of the strip 5 the follower' is held securely in position and will remain in any position to which it may he adjusted. rlhe operator hy pressing his thumb against the dog and compressing' the spring 2O thereby releases the aws of the dog from the roue'hened faces of the strip 5 so that the follower may then be moved readily to any position desired on the strip 5 and when the dog is released it immediately takes a tenacious hold upon the strip TWhen it is desired to remove the follower from the drawer the follower is moved to the extreme front end of the drawer where the ent-away portion 8 of the strip 5 occurs7 when loy shifting' the follower to one side the lfalde lui: on that side is released from engagement with the s1 rip 5, whereupon the follower may he lifted out owing to the fact that the opposite guide lug is not in engagement with the strip due to the eut-away portion S. This makes it possible to readily remove the follower' without 'removing' any of the parts.
lVhat I claim is:
1. The combination of a drawer or other receptacle, a strip extending longitudinally thereof forming guide-ways at each side thereof, a follower, guide-lugs struck up from said follower and forming openings in the follower, a. lockingy meinoer on said follower', jaws on said loelting` member en- Hring` said openings and engaging said strip.
Q. rlhe eoml'nnation of a drawer or other receptacle7 a strip extending longitudinally thereof jforming guide-ways at each side thereof, a follower, guide-lugs struck up from said follower' and forming openings in the follower7 said guide-lugs engaging said guideovays, a locking member pivoted on said follower, and jaws on said locking member entering said openings and engaging said strip.
3.. lEhe combination of a drawer or other receptacle, a strip extending longitudinally 'thereof and forming guide-ways at each side thereof., a, follower, guide-lugs-struck up from said follower engaging said guidewnys and forming openings in said follower, n spring actuated locking member pvotally mounted on said follower, and jaws on l0 Said looking member engaging said strip through said openings.
In testimony whereof, the/said ERICK G. SAMP'SON have hereunto set my hand.
ERICK G. SAMPSON. Vtnessesl C. vW. STRONG, B, Gr. PARTRIDGE.
