Description

E.TON WAIST. Patented Aug A. M. STIGER; COMBINED STOGKIN N0. 106,885.
G SUPPORTER AND SKEL Unrrnn rams AUGUSTA vM. STIGER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COii/IBWED STOCKING-SUPPORTERS AND SKELETON WAISTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [06,885, dated August 30, 1870.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTA M. sTlG-ER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Stocking-Supporters and Skeleton Waists; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawing, formingpartof this specification,in which the figure represents my improved stockingsupporter and skeleton waist as attached to the wearer.
My invention relates to improvements in childrens combined stocking-supporters and waists used for supporting the drawers, stockings, and skirts. more simple and convenientthan those heretot'ore known or used, and is so constructed and applied that the strain or weight may be upon the shoulders, thus removing the necessity of confining the childs legs or waist with elastic or other bands, as is at present the custom.
A is a band or. strap which passes around the waist of the child, and the ends of which are connected to each other by a buckle, button, hooks and eyes, or other convenient means.
13 are straps that pass over the shoulders of the wearezyand the ends,of which'are attached to the strap A in frontand rear.
, C is a sbort"strap the ends of which are at-- taohed to thef'ront parts of the shoulder-straps B, and. which crosses the childs breast to keep "the said straps in place.
, D is a strap which is madein two parts, the outer ends of which are attached to the rear parts of the shoulder-straps B, and the inner ends o'f' which connected to each other by at-btickle, batten, hooks and eyes, or other convenient means.
I The straps A B O D thus form a skeleton waist, and prevent the upper part of the childs body from being confined with a close bandage, and. being thus kept too warm.
My improved supporter is To adapt the skeleton waist for use as a A three pairs of straps, E F G, in such position thatthe pairs E G may be at the sides and the front pain, F, in front of the child. The lower ends of 'each pair of straps meet at an angle, and the upper ends arespread apart,
as shown in the figure, to distribute the strain upon the waist-strap A.
To the angles or lower ends of the straps F G are attached, by buttons, buckles, hooks and eyes, sewing, or other convenient means, the upper ends of elastic straps H, the lower ends of which are attached, by means of buttons or-other convenient detachable means, to the outer sides of the tops of thestocking-legs. To the lower end or angle of the front pair of straps, F, are attached the upper ends of two elastic straps, I, the lower ends of which are buttoned or otherwise detachable attached to the inner sides of the tops of the stockinglegs, The stockings are thus supported upon both sides of the childs legs.
To the waist-strap A are attached four (more or less) buttons, J, upon which the childs drawers and skirts may be buttoned, so that their weight maybe supported from the childs shoulders, instead of being supported from its waist.
Haring thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, the
combined stocking-supporter and skeleton waist herein described, consisting of the waiststrap A, shoulder straps B, breast and back straps 0 and D, side straps, E G, front straps, F, and elastic straps H and I, all connected and arranged as specified. I
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 14th day of June, 1870.
AUGUSTA 1W. STIGER.
