BAKKER D. MOTT, OF GREEN ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AN D HAR- COURT MOTT, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 106,856, dated August 30, 1870.l
IMPROVEMENT IN' HQOD FOR PLANING-MACHINE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same I, BAKKER D. MOTT, of the village of Green Island, Albany county, State of New York, have invented a new and improved Mouth-Piece or Hood for Planin g or Matcllingmachine Dusters, of which the following is a specification.
lThe nature of lnyinvent-ion consists in the construction of a peculiar-shaped mouth-piece, hood, or the equivalent thereof, to be used and placed at the illgress end of the spout or pipe at present used, or any equivalent thereto, that may be used in connection with a rotary exhaust-bellows, forming what is styled a planing or matching-machine duster, the said nlachine orapparatus being already patented.
'lhe'hcotl or mouth-piece above-mentioned is secured to the pipe or tube of the duster, and its object'is to facilitate the passage of .particlesof dust, shavings, 85e., and the said hood or lnouth-piece is so formed or constlusted as to tit closely around the several parts of the pla-ning or matching-machine where necessary to control the ascent ot' the dust, shavings, dto., and is also so formed and constructed as to render their ascent easier and quicker tllan heretofore, there being no obstructiolls in the way.
Description'of the Accompany-ing Drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the front and one side ot' the hood or mouth-piece.
Figure 2 is a perspectiveview, showing the back and one side of the same.
Figure 3 is a vertical section on the line A B, tig. 4.
Figure 4 is a horizontal section on the line() D, fig. 3.
Figure 5is a horizontal section on the lille C D, fig. 3.
Figure 6 is a side elevation, showing a machine with Jthe duster, rot-ary bellows, 85o., and showing'tlle position of the hood or lnouthpiece when in use.
and is shaped so as to tit either olltside orinside of the.
cluster-pipe. I prefer ttiug it outside, as offering less obstruction to ascending particles. This neck a isriveted, bolted, or otherwise fastened to the dusterpipe. Below this neck a the hood expands, the horizontal section square, as sllown, or it may be, ill some cases, more convenient made circular.
vThe intel-loris marked b.
The front, b, at 0,-bends horizontally.
b2 are the sides, having pieces taken ont at d and e, as sllown in figs. 1 and2, to lit the machinery wllen the hood is in use.
At f are shown gussets projecting from the rear angles, their pulpose being also to lit over portions of the machinery for planing or matching, so as to catch all the particles of dust, zc., so that all lnay be drawn up and laway from the machine. These gussets f 'may he forme-d either sectionally round, square, `or triangular. A round form is shown iu fig. 4, a square forln in tig. 5, and in the same figure, by dotted lines, is shown a triangular form;
The lower part of the said hood is wider than the neck, and the gussets spread still wider, the whole being arranged, formed, alld constructed as to suit the machinery for whichit is adapted and used.
In tig. 6, g represents the rotary bellows used to exhaust the ail'. y
his the pipe, tube, or its equivalent, connecting the bellows with the machine t' below. The particles, dust, shavings, &c., are drawn up by the rush of air through the pipe il, and thrown out at j. The mouth-piece or hood is sllown at the lower end of the pipe h.
llle bellows g alld pipe 7l, forming what is called the duster, being the subject of a former patent, I
have no claim therefor, my invention being the hood o'r mouth-piece only. A hood h as been used before, but of entirely different construction, and was found insuflcient and useless for the purpose. A gusset may be used on one side only, and none on the other, when required to suit solne peculiar style of machine.
What I claim as my invention is- A hood or mouth-piece for planing or matchingmachines, when construct-ed substantially 1n the manner and for the purpose as herein described and set RICHARD H. Remus, ANGELIA S. REILLE.
