Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ACOB C. LUDEN, citizen of the United States, residin at Heading, in the county of Berks an State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suction-Nozzles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved suction nozzle intended for use in connection with a vacuum cleaner.
The invention consists in forming the nozzle with an indirect passage way for the dust particles and in providing a transparent globe at a point between the inlet and outlet points of the nozzle. This construction will permit the operator to determine when the surface over which the nozzle is being passed is thoroughly cleaned, by the absence in the globe of any dust articles.
The invention is more fully escribed in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawmg, in which Figure l is a vertical central sectional view of my improved nozzle. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof and Fig. 4 is a sectional view' on line 44 of Fig. 1.
The numeral 1 designates the inlet or mouth of the nozzle. This portion may be of any shape or width desired and it terminates in a tubular portion 2 of semi-circular cross-section.-
The numeral 3 designates the outlet end of the nozzle, that is, the end that is connected to the tube leading to the vacuum machine or suction pump. This-tube is circular in cross-section .at the outlet end but tions being the result of a central partition 5, dividing what would otherwise be an enlarged circular tube. This enlarged portion of the nozzle is open at its top and on this top end I secure a screw nipple 6, and onto this nipple I screw 2. cap 7. This cap is formed wlth a central opening 8 registering with the openings in the semi-circular portions 2 and 4:.
The numeral 9 designates a glass globe. This globe is secured to the cap by means of a ring 10 held in position by screws 11. The flange of the globe is provided with a suitable protecting ring 12 of rubber or like material.
It is evident that when the dust particles are drawn into the nozzle they will pass up through the tube 2, into the globe 9 and out through the tube 4, 3. It 1s also evident Patented July 19, 12110.
that when the dust particles cease to appear in the globe, the surface is thoroughly cleaned and need not be uselessly gone over.
