Description

D12-18. O D 598 6 E) [DESIGN-1 WILLIAM H. BRADLEY.
Coupe.
No. 5,846, Patented May 1 4;I872.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM H. BRADLEY, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A couP.
Specification forming part of Design No. 5,846, dated May 14, 1872.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BRADLEY, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Coupe; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification and represents a side view.
This invention relates to a design for the improvement in that class of carriages known as coupes-that is, a carriage in which the forward door-post forms the angle or break of the front, usually constructed with a single seat.
Heretofore thefront of this class of carriages has been a continuous unbroken line across the front, from post to post.
This invention, which has a certain degree of utility as well as to improve the form and appearance of the carriage, consists in making a break or drop on the carriage-top in theline which has usually been the extreme of the front, and, extending forward, forming a projecting front, and yet preserving the lines of the carriage as heretofore constructed.
The carriage up to the forward post or angle a. is substantially the same as heretofore pr0- duced. At that point, or the forward end of the carriage, I extend the top, but dropped so as to form an independent projection, 01, (this also a little narrower than the body proper,) so as by a break at the post A to preserve the usual line of the coupe on the sides. The form of this projection d is, by preference, hexagonal, to show three glass sides, as shown in the drawing, but may be of other form; the principal point of this design being in making the break in the top of the carriage, as shown inthe drawing. While this does not-materially, if any, lengthen the carriage, it adds somewhat to the room upon the inside and greatly improves the appearance of the carriage.
I claim as my invention-- The design for coupe, as illustrated in the accompanying drawing and as herein described. Witnesses: WM. H. BRADLEY.
