HERMAN ARNOLD, OF GREENWICH, CONNECTICUT.
SHADE-BRACKET.
flnaeaaooo.
' 7 Application filed December To all whom it may c mcern.
, Be it known that l, HERMAN ARNOLD, citizen of the United States, residing at Greenwich, in, the county ofFairfield and State of ,Coni'iecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Brackets, of which I 1 the following is a specification.
My nvention pertains to shade brackets adapted to be adjusted to fit shade rollers of various lengths; and it consists in the peculiar and advantageous adjustable bracket hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, accompanying and formmg part of this specification: Figure 1 1s a perspective view showing a shade bracket "constructed in accordance with my invention, as properly arranged on a window frame. Fig. 2 1s a front elevation of the bracket body. Fig. 3 is a plan view of said body. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the adjustable member of the bracket. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the same. I I
Similar letters designate" corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings, re-
ferring to which A 's a ortion of a window frame and B is thebody of my novel bracket, which is designedto be fixed on the face of the frame by nails or screws passed through apertures a, in
its rearwardly rojecting end portions 1).
- The said projecting portions 6 bear against I the face of the window frame A, and conse- "quently a space 0 is afforded between said face andthe; intermediate portion at of the body, which intermediate portion is provided with an o ening e and notches gin the lower wall f of t e opening, for an important purpose hereinafter set forth.
My novel bracket comprises the body B and the adjustable member 0. The said adjustable member 0, like the body B, is formed of a single pieceof metal or other suitable material, and has a'forwardly reachingportion h, an enlargement or flange i at the rear end thereof, a recess in the lower edge of the portion h, and a flange 76 extending laterally from one side of the portion 72 at a point immediatelyin front of the recess 3.
In the practical use of my novel bracket,
the parts are relatively arranged as shown in Fig. lthat is to say, with the enlargement 1 or flange t of the adjustablemember C in the space 0 back of the intermediate portion (1 of the body B, and the portion h of said member C extending forwardly through the opening c'in the body and so that the recessed part j Specification of Letters Patent.
l is seated in one of the notches g of the body, and the flange 76 rests in front of the body and against the forward or outer side thereof.
JJhen the member 0 is laced as stated in the body B, the member gwill be supported by the body and securely held against movement in the direction of the length of the body, this being due to the seating of the recessed part 3' in one of the notches g of the body. It will also be observed that when the member C is placed as stated, the en largement or flange t, close against the rear side of the body wall f, and the flange is: close elude lateral swinging or casual movement of said member and render the connection between the same and the body rigid and strong as is desirable.
i hen it is desired to adjust the member C in and lengthwise of the body B to fit said member 0 to a particular shade roller, it is simply necessary to raise the member until the upper wall of its recess j is above the upperedge of the body wall f, and then move the member laterally in the direction of the length of the body to the point desired, and then move the member downwardly to seat it in the adjacent notch g of the body, in which position it will be retained by its own weight and the weight of a shade roller when the latter is engaged with it.
While the bracket illustrated is shown as provided in its member C with a circular aperture, it will be obvious that the member may be provided with either a circular aperture or an angular aperture according to the side of a window frame on which the bracket is to be used, or else may be provided with any other suitable means to receive an end appurtenance of a shade roller.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the recess j in the member portion 7L renders it unnecessary to make the opening 0 unduly high and in that way contributes to the compactness and strength of the bracket; also, that the front wall of said recess j serves by bearing against the front side of the body to assist in preventing sagging of the forward end of the member O.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
In a shade bracket, the combination with a body having an opening, the lower wall of which is horizontal, and also having vertical notches in said lower wall, at intervals in the against the front side of said wall f, will pre- I length thereof; of an adjustable member I in one of the notches of the body, the body having a flange disposed back of the body will rest snugly between the two flanges of and a portion extending forwardly from said the adjustable member. flange and through the opening in the body, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set a and also having a recess in the lower edge of my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- 15 the said portion, and a flange extending lat- 5 nesses. erally from the portion and separated from HERMAN ARNOLD. the first named flange by a space correspond- Witnesses: ing to the thickness of the body, whereby ALBERT S.
