The principel object of the invention is to" provide a device of this character which will be capable of rise upon diflerentsize ockets and which will effectually prevent t c loss of the wallet lrom the pocket.

he formed of ornamental appearance to provide a neat and ettractive device for the purpose stated.

A further object of the invention is to provide a wallet fastener which will be extremely sirnple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and practical and eflicient from every point of view.

To attain the desired objects, the invention broadly stated, consists in the provision ol ewallet fastener having a part carried by the pocket and attached to the pocketbook, and a clam ing lever attached to the part cerriedby t e ocketbook, the invention further residing in the novel features of construction and combinations of parts for service, substeintially as disclosed herein.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, in which it have illustrated a wallet fastener constructed in accordance with and embodying the principles of my invention: Figure 1 is a hoot elevation of a pocketbook equipped with my improvement. Fig. 2 is e side elevation in section ol the view shown in Fig. l. l ig. 3 is a rear view of a pocketbook, showing the elastic band or fastener employed in the construction of my improved wallet fastener. Fig. l is a perspective view oi the attaching member of the fastener. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the clamping lever. and l ig. 6 is e perspective view of the attaching pistes carried by the wallet.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing, in which similar characters of reference are employed to denote corresponding parts in the several views -Thc numeral 1 designates the inside wall of apocket, 2 the bottom wall, and 3 the outer wall, into which pocket 0. pocketbook 4 is inserted.

The numeral 5 designates the attaching plate or member generally, which plate consists of a broad upper portion 6,, having an integral tongue or rib 7 passing between the outer plate 8 and the inner or base plate 9, said glates being attached to each other and to t 'e wallet by means of the rivets 10. The upper portion of the member 5 is turned or'bent as 211311 to engage over the upper end of the outer wall 3 of the pocket and has its outer face 12 out along three sides to form a lip 13, which acts as a spring for the clamping member 14, formed with the bend or flange 15, and having the bearing 16 engaged in the bail 17 carried by the face 12 of the member 5.

An elastic band 17 is secured at one end between the plates 8 and 9 and passes around the wallet and has its other end passed through a bail or eye 17" formed on the late 8, and bent back and secured by at odds 18. The tongue 7 is capable of being moved verticallybetween the plates 8 and 9 and the fastener can thus be adjusted to any size of pocket. A second fastening 18 is provided for the bend 1'?" whereby the tension of the band may be taken up or slackened to accommodate it to any size of Wallet.

To limit the movement of the tongue, I prothe wallet with its bent portion engaging the edge of the outer wall of the pocket, while the tongue extends along the inside and engages between the plates 8 and 9, fastened to the wallet. The clamping member 14 is pivoted to the outer face of the member 5. When it is desired to remove the wallet from the pocket, the lever 14 is raised and the part 13 of the fastener is freed from its engagement with the wall 3. To ire-fasten the Wallet in the pocket, it is simply necessary to return the wallet to the pocket and move the clamp back to its normal position.

While I have shown and described the fastener as applied to'a wallet or pocketbook, it will of course be understood that I do not limit myself to the use of the device upon such an article, but reserve the right to employ the fastener in any capacity where it will perform its functions in a practical and eificient manner. I also do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction herein shown and described, and maymake such changes and alterations coming within the spirit and scopeof the invention, as defined in the claims as circumstances may require.

rom the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, the manner of usin my attachment will be readily understoo and it will be noted that the elastic band secures the wallet with its contents, and that the tongue is adjustable in the plate secured to the wallet, and that the tongue has the upper hooked end which passes over the wall of the pocket, and the clasp engages the pocket and secures the tongue to the pocket. It will thus be seen that it is simply necessary to place the wallet in the pocket, slip the hook over the wall of the pocket and depress the lever 14, which causes the binding action and secures the wallet inthe pocket but permits an easy regaging moval, when necessary, by simply releasing the pressure of the clasp against the pocket.

In a loss preventing device, the combination with a pocket, of a wallet fastener arranged therein and comprising an upper member formed with an integral tongue a lower member, a plate associated therewith between which and the lower member said tongue passes, a band passing around the wallet, and a clamping member carried by the upper member'and adapted to normally cause the upper member to engage the wall of the pocket.

2. In a loss preventing device, the combination with a wallet provided with "a band and a baseplate, of an upper member having an integral tongue engaging said band, a flange formed upon said upper member enthe outer wall of a pocket, and a clampmg member pivoted upon the outer face of the flange and adapted to cause the upper memberto engage thewall ,of the pocket when in locked osition.
