Description

(No Model.)
I. M. AARONSON.
TROUSERS PROTECTOR.
No. 485,807 Patented Nov. 8,1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISRAEL M. AARONSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,807, dated November 8, 1892.
Application filed February 18, 1892. Serial No. 421,913. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISRAEL M. AARONSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to trousers protectors or shields, its object being to provide a durable and efficient protector or shield for the bottoms of pantaloons or trousers, whereby the edges thereof are prevented from becoming worn or frayed, and whereby the bottoms are held in shape neatly around the heels of the wearer.
To these ends my invention consists in certain novel features of construction, to be hereinafter described, and then particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a rear View of my device as applied to the bottoms of trousers. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof. Fig. 3 is a front view of my device, and Fig. 4 is a rear view thereof. Fig. 5 is a top View of my device, and Fig. 6 is a transverse section of the same.
The device is applied around the rear portions of the bottoms of trousers, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and it comprises a curved portion or plate a, which is formed to conform to the curvature of the bottom I). The plate 0, runs to an elevation at the center, as shown, which elevation or upward extension assists in guiding the protector to place and affords a rear support therefor. Projecting ontwardly from the lower edge of the curved portion or plate a is a lip or flange c, which is preferably curved transversely upward, so as to provide a recess 61 for the reception of the edge of the bottom bof the trousers, while the curved portion or plate a is placed against the inner side of bottom I) to hold the same in shape and prevent spattered water or mud reaching the inner side of the protected portion of the trousers. The lip or flange 0 prevents the fraying of the rear edges of the trousers bottom. Extending upwardly from the edge of the lip or flange c are projections or lugs 6. These fit outside the trousers-bottom, but are in practice so small that they are not unsightly. The projections or lugs e cover the ends of the teeth or prods f, which project through openings g in the curved portion or plate a and engage the fabric, thus fastening the protector or shield to the bottom 19 of the trousers. Said projections or lugs e also prevent the accidental displace ment of the teeth, and at the same time prevent their sticking the fingers or catching against anything but the trousers. The teeth or prods f project from springs 71. h, secured to the inner side of the curved portion or plate a, said springs causing the teeth to project normally through the openings g. Lugs constituting finger-pieces 1 project downwardly from the springs h to enable the retracting of the teeth to disengage them from the fabric. Spring-plates h are horizontal and are secured to the plate a, at their inner ends, and spring-plate 72, is vertical, it being secured to the elevated portion of plate a at its upper end.
The exposed portions of the protector or shield are preferably enameled, or they may be covered with cloth or rubber. The protector itself is preferably made of rigid material, such as metal, hard rubber, and the like.
If the trousers should be too long, the use of this protector will prevent the heels of the wearer from stopping upon them in the act of walking.
. This protector is also intended to obviate the necessity of turning up the bottoms of trousers, which invariably forms unsightly creases.
It will be observed that the plate a gradually runs to an elevation at the center, which elevation assists in guiding the protector to position, and which also tends to prevent the falling or displacement of the protector at the rear, as its top will be stopped against the back of the trousers-leg.
Slight changes in the details of construction of my device may readily be resorted to by skilled mechanics without departing from the scope and spirit of my-invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A trousers-protector comprising a plate provided with an outwardly-projecting lip or flange curved transversely upward, thereby forming a recess in its top, lugs projecting upwardly from the edge of the flange, and a fastening device for securing the protector in IOC position, the same being hid by said lugs, sub- I prods adapted to protrude through the openstantially as and for the purpose set forth. ings behind said projections or lugs, substan- 2. A trousers-protector comprising a curved tially as set forth.
