Description

A. R. "TALLMAN.
WATCH AND FOB APPLIANCE.
APPLICATIONHLED NOV, 26' I917.
Patented Dec. 2, 1919.
ALBERT R. TALLIWAN, OF NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.
WATCH AND FOB APPLIANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2, 1919.
Application filed November 26, 1917. Serial No; 204,029.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT R. TALLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State 01"" Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l Vatch and Fob Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in watch and fob appliances, that is to say an article or device providing a fob and Watch attaching means, the leading object being the provision of a cheap, ornamental and eflicient device providing a fob and means for attaching the watch, the entire article engaging the pocket and preventing -improper detachment of the appliance with the fob and watch.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device forming a fob and watch attachment which will properly dispose and retain the fob and watch but which will'allow easy removal of the article to as certain the time, and which can be manufactured at such a trifling cost as to produce an article which can be given away or distributed as an advertisement and prove highly desirable for this purpose.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a watch and fob appliance which will be of small size to occupy little space, which can be easily applied and removed from the pocket in a proper manner but which cannot be detached improperly or stolen, and which generally in every particular will prove desirable, efiicient and practical.
With these objects in view my invention consists of a watch and fob appliance embodying n'ovel details of construction and arrangement of parts for service, substantially as shown, described and claimed herein.
Figure l is a front elevation of one form of my watch and fob appliance.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a slightly modified construction of the article Figs. 3 and 4: are front elevations of other forms of my improvement. 7
Fig. 5 shows a sectional view of a pocket with my appliance adapted thereto, this form bein shown in side elevation and also being of slightly modified construction, and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the form of my appliance shown in Fig. 5.
'ltdy aim is to produce an article of the simplest and cheapest possible construction capable of easy and rapid manufacture and consists of a strip or blank of metal-of the proper thickness comprising the front plate A, and the inner or rear bent plate B, which forms a clamp for engaging the outer wall C, of the pocket D. V
In the form of my invention shown in Fig. l the front plate is formed-with a disk E, upon which may be placed a monogram or ornamentation E, while in the form shown in Fig. 2 the same construction is used with the addition of the slotted plate F, to re ceive a ribbon, while in the forms shown in Figs. 3 and i the slotted or open frame G is provided which may receive upon the clamp ing portion the chain H, to which is attached the watch H, or upon the ear J, may be attached the chain K, which suspends the fob K, the open frame in these forms allowing the use either of a ribbon fob or a chain suspended fob, according to the desire of the user.
In Figs. 5 and 6 another form of my invention'is shown which consists of the front plate L, and the clamping or bent plate L, which has struck therefrom the lip M, which provides means for attaching the chain N of the watch N, while the front plate is formed with a slotted portion 0 to receive the fob,
ribbon 0, while teeth 0 are provided to retain the ribbon in place. The lower end of the bent member L is bent so as to form a concave surface L which is adapted to be engaged by the finger, when the watch is in the pocket and to guide the finger, when the same is moved transversely while in contact with the concave surface so that the finger will be guided under the chain N, which is secured to the finger M, said finger having its end disposed beyond the end of the lower bent end of the member L.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings it will he understood that I provide a device which'will properly attach the watch and fob and re tain them securely in the pocket; which is of ornamental and attractive appearance; and also by reason of its simplicity and cheap-' ness will prove a desirable article of jewelry as well as an excellent advertisement medium.
I claim: Y
A watch and fob appliance formed from a single piece of spring sheet metal bent upon itself so as to form outer and inner clamping members for engaging the edge of a pocket, the inne 1 member having its free end normally in engagement with the inner face of the outer member, at a Joint spaced from said end, said inner mem er being formed with a compound curve so as to engage'at said spaced point from its end, said inner member being provided with an outstanding lug substantially centrally thereof to which a watch eham may be secured so that the link or securing means of said watch chain will not interfere with the forcing of the edge of a pocket between the clamping members, the lower convolution of the in ner member extending outwardly so that the edge of the pocket will easily enter between the outer and inner clamping members.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
ALBERT R. TALLMAN. Witnesses:
SONOMA MAsLiN, ELLA DONELSON.
