illy invention relates to improvements 'in line holdersI for brieklayers use, the object: oit the invention being to provide a simple, inexpensive device which by reason oi the tension on the cord, will maintain itself in position on the corner wall, and will dispense with the necessity oit forcing the ordinary pin into the mortar between the bricks.

A further object is to provide an irnproved device ot this character which enables a clear view oit the angle oir the wall, and which may be quickly adjusted as the rows of brick are laid.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel :features ot construction and combiiiations and arrangements of parts, as will be more t'ully hereinat'ter described and pointed out in the claim.

My improved line holder 'l comprises a casting preferably of some strong durable and relatively light metal, which is made with two curved arms 2, 2, each arm having at its free edge, an enlarged bearing face 3. This bearing` face 3 is formed by extendingT the casting above and below the arni as seen most clearly in Fig. 3, and is. as a matter oit fact, a plate with a milled or otherwise roughened surtace having a central cord receiving' groove i- The curved arms 2 are integral with the body portion Il of the device, and an integral arm 5 ex tends rearwardly from the body ot' the device, and preferably bows downward at its point ol juncture with the body as seen at (3. (ln the central portion oit' the body, adjacent the pointed juncture with the arin 5, parallel webs 7 are made integral with the casting, and at the outer edges oi: the body portion ol the casting, perfo ated extensions S are provided.

'lhe cord l0 is wrapped aronml arm 5 giving! it what is known as a hitch as shown at 11, so that a pull on the cord only tends to tighten the same on the arm. lhe cord is then passed between the webs 7, and through one olf' the `grooves et, and then extends to the other holder at the other end o'l the wall where it is positioned in a like manner. The outer ends olf the arln 5 have `notches l2 therein, so that the ends o't" the cord l() may hang' in these notches and not obstruct a clear view ot the corner ol.: the wall which is had by reason oit the shape ot body lt and the arms '.lhis is seen most clearly in Fig. where it will be observed that the formation ot the device provides a curved opening` through which the corner o't' the wall may be sighted. lt 'frequently happens that brieklayers aecit'lentally eut the cord, and to prevent the holders It'rom l'allingr, lA preferably secure a cord 11" in one ot the perforated ears S, and provide small pins 'l-i; which are projectelfl into the mortar between the bricks. These pins it do not injure the wall7 and they only have sntliei-ent bearing' to prevmit the holder :from falling to the `ground in the. event the cord is accidentally cut. liy reason o't the :tact that the :t'aees or plates il, Si, are at an angle ol ninety degrees with relation to each other, a pull on the cord only tends to hold them more rightly in place, and as the wall is built these holders are each moved upwardly to Al'orln the customary guide for the bricklay-ers. The arln 5 is sharpened so that where no corners are to be had, this arm may be used as a pin and, iorced into the motar betwveen the bricks.

Various slight changes might be `made in the general torni and arrangnnnent ot parts described without departing' 'troni my invention, and hence l do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider mysel't at liberty to make such changes and alterations as 'lairly 'tall within the spirit. and scope oil? the appended claim.
