To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE TV. KEMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tallapoosa, in the county of Haralson and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop -Heads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mop-heads, and its object is to provide a strong, simple and durable device of this kind, and also one which is easy to handle, and which enables the mop to be quickly applied or removed.
Vith these objects in view, the invention consists in a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the ac companying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which drawing,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the mophead; Fig. 2 is an end view thereof, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the mop-head comprises stationary and movable jaws 5 and 6, respectively, between which the mop is clamped. The stationary jaw is a flat metal bar having at each end a depending guide-stem 7 for the movable jaw, the latter being also a flat metal bar which extends between the guide-stems and has notches 8 in its ends in which notches the guide-stems lit. The movable jaw is parallel to the stationary jaw, and is slidable toward and from the latter on the guidestems.
The movable jaw is adjustable by means of bolts 9 passing through alined apertures in the two jaws, near the ends thereof. The heads 10 of the bolt are enlarged on one side, and have in said side a notch 11 in which the guide-stems 7 fit. On the upper end of each bolt is threaded a wing-nut 12 which screws down on the top of the aw 5. From the jaw 5 extends a tang 13 for attachment of a suitable handle.
In operation, the mop is placed between the jaws 5 and 6, and the wing-nuts 12 are operated to slide the jaw 6 toward the jaw 5 until the mop is tightly clamped between said jaws. To remove the mop, it is necessary only to unscrew the wing-nuts and back the jaw 6 from the jaw 5. It will there fore be seen that the mop can be quickly applied or removed.
The device is simple in construction, strong and durable, and it effectually serves the purpose for which it is designed. The bolt-heads 1O guide the bolts 9, and prevent rotation thereof, so that they may be drawn as described by operating the wing-nuts 1.2. The position of the jaw 6 when it is clamping the mop is shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
I claim:
A mophead comprising stationary and movable jaws, guide-stems extending from the stationary jaw, between which guidestems the movable jaw extends, said movable jaw having notches in its ends in which the guidestems fit, bolts connecting the jaws, the heads of the bolts being enlarged on one side and having therein notches in which the guide-stems fit, and nuts screwed on the bolts against one of the jaws.
