GARMENT CAST-OFF.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, ADELE W. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Cast-Otis, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garment cast oils and the objects of my improvements are simplicity and economy in construction and convenience and efficiency in use.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the body member of my cast off. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the loop member. same on the line m of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an edge view of the body member and loop member, the latter shown in position for engaging and disengaging, the normal position of engagement being indicated by broken lines. F 6 is an edge view of a modification of the body member. Fig. 7 is a side elevation of another modification of the body member. Fig. 8 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 9 is a side elevation of a modification of the loop member suited to mate with the body member shown in Fig. 7. Fig. 10 is an edge View of the same. Fig. 11 is a side elevation of another modification of the body member with. part of a garment, on a reduced scale. Fig. 12 is a side elevation of the body member shown in Fig. 1, attached to a webbing and a modification of the loop member, provided with a cord eye and part of a trouser strap. Fig. 13 is a side elevation of a trouser strap for suspenders provided with loop members as shown in Fig. 3, secured to a fabric, on a reduced scale.
Figs. 1 and 2 show a body member A, formed of sheet metal and comprising an upper end 10 having means of attachment for a webbing shown as a slot 11, and a lower end 12 having means for removably receiving and engaging with the loop member B, shown in Fig. 3. The said latter means comprise a hook or loop having the apex 1 1 at the extreme lower end, which is adapted to receive the said loop B and which loop has upwardly directed diverging arms, the rear arm 15 at its upper end 16 bent torwardly generally horizontally to form a Fig. 1 is a sectional view or" the wall or guard 17 overhanging the cast off receiving space 18 between the same and the said apex let and which is joined by its forward end 19 to the said upper webbing receiving end 10. The forward or tree arm 20 of the said loop or hook is directed upwardly generally toward the said forward end 19 of the overhanging guard 17 and is separated therefrom at its upper end 2% by an entering space 21 which space is of a width corresponding to the thickness of the rectangular engaging end 23 of the loop B so as to admit the same freely when turned edgewise or fiat-wise. The said overhanging guard 17 is of such length that the upper end of the said space 18 between the said upper end 2d of the tree arm 20 and the corner 16 formed by the said rear arm 15 and overhanging guard 17 corresponds to the width 25 of the said engaging end 23 of the loop B. The said loop member B may be made of sheet metal or as shown, made of wire, and at its upper or engaging end 23 is flattened to form the rectangular construction described, and at its lower end has a cross bar 26, connected by side arms 27, the said cross bar 26 may cooperate by engaging with the apex 1 1 to prevent dis-engagement. As described, disengagement ot the said body member A and loop member B can take place only when the said engaging member 23 is in the turning space provided in the upper part of the said receiving space 18 and then only when the said engaging member B is turned at an angle so as to be essentially parallel with the said overhanging guard 17 so as to be in position to freely slide through the said entering space 21. Similarly in engaging, the said engaging member 23 1s turned flatwisc ano essentially horizontally slid through the said entering space 21 and the outer end swung downwardly with the rear end engaged with the corner 16 as a pivot, and dropped downwardly to the apex 1 1.
In Fig. 6 is shown a modification in which the apex M is in essential alinement with the upper end 10 to which the webbing is attached.
In Figs. 7, 8, 9 and 10, are shown views of a modification made of wire and adapted for use in place of an ordinary hook and eye, each member having eyes 30 by waich the same may be stitched to the fabric.
In Fig. 11 is shown a modification for use with concealed suspenders and having the upper end joined to the lower end by a neck 28 and separated at their lateral ends by openings 29 which comprise clamping spaces and are adapted to receive the lateralwalls of the button hole of a garment so that the same may be clamped by the said lateral ends. For use in connection with the said suspenders and body A, the loop member may be attached to an auxiliary webbing as C, Fig. 18, to which it may be sewed by a branch tape D and which Webbing C may be made up in lengths with a series of loops B spaced at predetermined distances, and out off in pairs or in any other way desired. y
In Fig. 12 is shown a suspender strap E provided with one of my cast offs in which the loop member B is provided with a cord eye 32 adapted to receive a trouser strap F.
It is apparent that some changes from the specific construction herein disclosed may be made and therefore I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise form of construction shown and described, but desire the liberty to make such changes, in working my invention, as may fairly come within the spirit and scope of the claim.
I claim as my invention:
In a garment cast ofi, a body member comprising a hook having upwardly directed arms having upper ends, an overhanging wall above the said ends and attached to one of the same, the other of the said ends separated from the said overhanging wall by an entrance space, the said arms adjacent said ends separated by a turning space and a loop member having an engaging bar, the said bar of essentially reetangular cross-section, and the width of the said entering space a fit for the smaller rectangular dimension of the said bar and the said turning space such as to permit the turning of the said bar therein.
