Description
MPETERS, PHOWALITKOGRAFHER. WASMINGION, n c.
"ivd-mitadv gatuite YWILLIAM` BARTLETT, OF LITTLE BOOKING, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 106,455, dated August 16, 1870.
IMPRQ'V'EMENT IN FENCE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Pater-xt and making of the same.
To all whom fit may concern Be it known that I,WILLIAM BARTLETT; of Little Hocking, in the county of VVashingtcn and State of Ohio, have invented a new Improved Fence; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the-same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of one section of the fence;
Figure 3a1e transverse horizontal sections, showing the manner of connectingr the end posts of adjacent sections; and
Figure 4 is a top view. l
This inventionv relates to a zigzag or worm-fence, and consists in posts planted at an inclination,all leaning inward or toward the vertical plane, cutting cen-- trally lengthwise of the fence, for the purpose of rendering the fence firmer than as though the posts were upright.
In the drawinga are the posts, planted in zigzag order, two at each angle, and leaning inwardly; or, in other words, the posts, at alternate corners, are inclined toward the bare the clamps by which the two posts at each corner are united near their tops.
c are the clamps by which the same Vposts are united near their lower ends.
d e f are the three boards that form each section of the fence, whereof the upper boards are shortest, the lower boards longest, and the boards e intermediate in length, as well asin position, which variation in length is rendered necessary by the opposite outward inclination of the post-at each corner of the fence.`
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'The posts a., planted in zigzag order, and inclined at alternate corners of the fence inwardly, or toward the vertical plane, passing centrally lengthwise of the fence, substantially as described. l
i WILLIAM BARTLETT.
