WRINKLE-PREVENTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27 1913.
Application filed April 23, 1912. Serial No. 692,573.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE J. Mo- DONALD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of London, inthe county of Middlesex, England, have invented a new and Improved lVrinkle-Preventer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved wrinkle preventer to be worn by a person in repose especially during the night while the person is asleep,
and arranged to prevent the face and more notably the checks of the wearer from coming in contact with the pillow or other head rest, so that the free circulation of the blood is not hampered, and is not drawn or wrinkled up by contact with the pillow, and hence the formation of wrinkles is prevented.
For the purpose mentioned use is made of a support formed of a series of arched head bands adapted to extend over the head, inner and outer cushions on the sides of the said support and a chin band having loops at the ends for removable engagement with the outer cushions, the said loops being spaced from the sides of the face.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are side and front perspective views of the wrinkle preventer as applied; Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of the wrinkle preventer with the bands or bows in folded position; and Fig. 4 is a reduced side elevation of the bands or bows.
A support A for engagement with the head of the wearer is formed of a series of arched bands or bows B, B, B and B of steel or other flexible material, and the said bands are provided at their ends with slots B engaged by clamping screws C, C so that the several bands radiate from the clamping screws and can be adjusted one relative to the other to properly fit the head of the wearer. The front band B is adapted to extend across the forehead of the wearer and is provided at its middle and at the inside of the band with a cushion D adapted to engage the forehead of the wearer directly above the nose so as to hold the band B out of direct contact with the forehead of the wearer. The rear band B is adapted to extend around the back of the head of the wearer, while the intermediate bands B, B engage the head at the top thereof, the band B overlying the hair directly above the forehead while the band B is farther back, as plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.
The support A is provided at the sides with inside cushions E attached to the inner ends of the clamping screws C and adapted to rest against the sides of the head so as to space the sides of the bands from the head and to hold the front band B out of contact with the forehead. Similar cushions F are arranged on the outside of the support A directly opposite the inner cushions E so that when the head is in repose on a pillow or other head rest then the face of the wearer is held out of contact with the pillow, and consequently the free circulation of the blood in the face is not hampered and the skin is not drawn or wrinkled up, and hence the formation of wrinkles is prevented. In order to prevent the support from accidentally slipping out of position use is made of a chin band Gr shaped to fit the chin of the wearer and provided at the sides with elastic loops Gr adapted to be engaged with buttons H held centrally on the outer surface of the exterior cushions F, F.
By reference to Fig. 2, it will be seen that by having the pairs of cushions E and F arranged in the manner described, the sides of the chin band G and its loops G are held out of contact with the cheeks of the wearer so that the cheeks are not wrinkled by contact with the chin band.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the head support is securely held in position on the head of the wearer while the latter is asleep, and free circulation of the blood is not impeded as the face of the wearer is completely out of contact with the pillow or other head rest, and the forehead band B is out of contact with the forehead, and the sides of the chin band G and the loops G thereof are out of engagement with the cheeks of the wearer.
In practice, the bands B, B, B and B as well as the cushions E and F are covered with ornamental fabric materials so as to give a fine appearance to the wrinkle preventer.
The cushion or pad D besides holding the front band B out of contact with the forehead also serves to prevent the formation of wrinkles at the middle of the forehead directly above the eyes as the said cushion holds the skin in flat stretched position and does not allow the skin to wrinkle up during the time the device is used.
Having thus described my invent-ion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-
1. A wrinkle preventer, comprising a support formed of arched bands adapted to extend across the head of the wearer, a pair of cushions on the sides of the support, one of the cushions of each pair being on the inside of the support for engagement with the head of the wearer to space the side of the support from the side of the head and the other cushion of the pair being exterior of the support for engagement with a pillow to hold the side of the head out of contact with the pillow, and a clamping device at each side of the support and connected with the said cushions.
2. A wrinkle preventer, comprising a support formed of arched bands adapted to extend across the head of the wearer, and a pair of cushions on the sides of the support, one of the cushions of each pair being on the inside of the support for engagement with the head of the wearer to space the support from the side of the head and the other cushion of the pair being exterior of the support for engagement with a pillow to hold I the side of the head out of contact with the pillow, buttons held on the outer surface of the exterior cushions, and a chin band adapted to engage at its middle the chin of the wearer the said band being provided with loops for engaging the buttons on the exterior cushions to hold the sides of the chin band spaced from the sides of the face.
3. A wrinkle preventer, comprising a support formed of a series of arched bands adapted to extend over the wearers head and having slotted ends, clamping screws engaging the said slotted ends of the bands, inside cushions on the inner ends of the said clamping screws for engagement with the wearers head to space the sides of the bands from the head, exterior cushions on the outer ends of the said clamping screws and adapted to rest on a pillow, a chin band having elastic side bands provided with loops, and buttons held centrally on the outer surface of the exterior cushions and adapted to be engaged by the said loops to hold the said elastic side bands spaced from the sides of the face.
4. A wrinkle preventer, comprising a support formed of a series of arched bands adapted to extend over the wearers head,
the rear one of the said bands extending across the back of the head, the front one of the said bands extending across the forehead of the wearer, and the said front band having at its middle and on the inside a pad for engagement with the middle of the forehead at a point directly above the nose, and
the intermediate bands being spaced from each other and from the front and rear bands and extending across the top of the head, the ends of the said bands being pivotally connected with each other, inside spring cushions on the inside of the said support at the junction of the bands, and exterior spring cushions on the outside of the said support at the junction of thebands.
5. A wrinkle preventer, comprising a support formed of a series of arched bands adapted to extend over the wearers head, the rear one of the said bands extending across the back of the head, the front one of the said bands extending across the forehead of the wearer, and the said front band having at its middle and on the inside a pad for engagement with the middle of the forehead at a point directly above the nose, and the intermediate bands being spaced from each other and from the front and rear bands and extending across the top of the head, the ends of the said bands being pivotally connected with each other, inside spring cushions on the inside of the said support at the junction of the bands, exterior spring cushions on the outside of the said support at the junction of the bands, and a chin rest having elastic side bands removably connected with the said exterior cushions.
6. A wrinkle preventer comprising a support formed of arched bands adapted to extend across the head of the wearer, clamping screws engaging the ends of the bands for pivotally and adjustably connecting the ends with each other, one of said bands extending across the forehead and having on the inside a pad for engagement with the forehead, and a pair of cushions on the sides of the support at the junction of the bands, and connected with the said clamping screws, one of the cushions of each pair being on the inside of the support and the other cushion of the pair being exterior of the support.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
