3 Claims.

This invention relates to an article to be 'worn to prevent wrinkles and damaging of the skin tissues such as on the face. More particularly it deals with a pad or pillow which may be adjustably held against the side of the head to keep the skin from wrinkling or folding when the face is resting against a support, such as a pillow.

During sleep the tissues of the face are usually crushed or folded in the same position for hours at a time. For example, the flesh of the cheeks or face when flattened against the pillow during the sleeping hours pushes the skin forwards and settles in the hollows of the eyes where it produces wrinkles.

-It is an object of this invention to prevent wrinkles or damaging of the skin tissues during rest.

It is another object to prevent wrinkling or folding of ones skin around the eyes, under the chin, and on the cheeks, and neck.

Another object is to reduce the formation of double-chins.

Another object is to prevent ones face from prematurely showing age.

Another object is to provide an article which may be adjusted to fit anyones head.

Another object is to provide an article which keeps ones face raised above its support, such as a pillow or a mattress, so that the skin on the face will not be folded due to frictional contact with the pillow or mattress.

Still other objects and features will appear from time to time in the description which follows:

Generally speaking, this invention comprises a pad which may be adjustably held against a portion of a persons skin to prevent it from frictionally contacting objects with which it may come in contact when one is retiring or asleep. Specifically, the article of this invention is adapted to be fastened to ones face and preferably comprises: (1) two sections, one to be placed on either side of the head and (2) means such as straps to hold the sections of the pad in place on the head without slipping or frictionally rubbing against ones face. The straps may be adjustable or made of elastic or both so as to firmly hold the pads in position. It is desirable that the straps be easily removed so that the article may be taken off at will. Since the article of this invention is to be worn, it may be advantageous to provide separate slips or covering means for the pad or pads, with the straps attached thereto, which slips and straps may be readily laundered or'replaced.

These and other features and objects of the invention will become apparent upon consideration of the following detailed description of the embodiments to be read in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 is a side view of one embodiment of this invention in position on a wearers head.

. Referring to the drawings, the specific embodiment disclosed in Figs. 1-4 comprises: two separate pads I0 which are shaped to fit over the ears and along the cheeks from the temples down the modification shown to the lower jaw. These pads II) are shown in Fig..

4 to be thick at their forward edge I I and preferably tapered at their rear edge I2 so that when they are worn, the head may be easily rolled from one side to the other without being obstructed due to the thickness of the pad l0. It i desirable that the pads II] also be tapered at their lower edge l3 as shown in Fig. 2.

These pads 10 may befastened to the head by means of a top strap or tape M which may be removable and/or adjustably fastened to either or both pads by means l5, such as a buckle, bow, button, snaps, or the like. Similarly, an adjustable strap I6 may be provided for around the back of the head which also may be attached to one or both of the pads [0 by a similar fastening means 11. Also another strap 18 may be provided for under the chin which also may be detachably fastened to either or both pads H3 at l9. In an alternative embodiment one or more of the straps M, It and 18 may be made of elastic material to hold the pads firmly against the side of the wearers face. Preferably strap I8 is made of elastic material to allow the wearer to swallow, cough or speak with ease. If desired, more straps may be provided connecting the two pads 10 without departing from the spirit of this invention.

In the embodiment shown in Figs. 5 and 6,

the article comprises a single pad 20 havin enlarged sections 2| at either end corresponding to the pads Ill mentioned above. The single pad 20 may be made to be adjustable in length, if desired. Although it is not necessary, in this second embodiment, to provide straps around the back of the head, the two

22 and 23 for over the top of the head and under the chin, respectively, are desirable to hold the double pad 26 in place. These

22 and 23 correspond to straps I4 and I8 and also may be adjustably fastened at either or both of their ends to the double pad 20.

In the modification shown in Figs. 7 and 8 the pads 30, corresponding to pads I!) in Fig. 1, have portions 3| and/or 32 which extend forward around over the forehead so that if the wearer tends to sleep face down, the cheeks of the wearer will still be maintained a sufficient distance from the support of the head so as not to contact the support. The inside of the pads in or 20 may be nade of any suitable padding or pillow material, such as i" cotton, wool, felt or the like, provided it is sufficiently firm and thick, to prevent the skin it is trying to protect, from being rubbed by the motion of the wearer, and holding it in an aloof position.

The pads themselves, as previously stated, may be covered with a slip of a suitable wearable or other material which may be readily cleaned. The straps l4, l6, l8, or

22 and 23, may be permanently attached to the slip covers. Two or more such slip covers with straps attached may be supplied with each pad or pair of pads, so that one, may be washed while the ther is used, and so that replacements may be made ea ily.

While the above is a description of the principles of the invention in connection with specific articles, it is understood that this description is made only by way of example and not as a limitation on the scope of the invention as described t e Objects and in. th accompanying c a ms.

An ar icle to be worn on. b th si s f h head and over the ears to. prevent wrinkling of the skin of the face, comprising: at least one wedge-shaped. pad, straps attached to said pad adapted to fit about the head to hold the pad in a fixed position, the thickest portion of said pad being sufiiciently thick to keep a cheek of the wearer from contacting a support for the head, and the thinnest portion of sa d. pad being sum- 4 ciently thin to permit the wearers head to roll onto said pad without obstruction.

2. An article to be worn on the head and over the ears to prevent wrinkling of the skin of the face, comprising: an elongated pad having thick portions at the long ends thereof and a narrower tapering portion between said ends, said pad being of sufficient length so that said ends reach around the back of the wearers head, the thick portions of the pad being adapted to be positioned adjacent the cheeks of the wearer and sufiiciently thick to keep the checks from contacting a support for the head, and the thinnest portion of said pad being sufficiently thin to permit the wearers head to roll onto said pad without obstruction, and straps fastened to said pad adapted to hold it in position on the head.

3. An article to be worn on the head to prevent wrinkling of the skin of the face, comprising: a pair of wedge-shaped pads, each pad being adapted to fit over an ear and to extend from the forehead to the lower jaw, and also adapted to extend forward and around and at least part way across the forehead, the thickest portions of said pads being of sufficient thickness to space the skin of the wearers face from the support for the head, and the thinnest portions of said pads being sufiiciently thin to permit the wearers head to roll onto said pads without obstruction, and straps connecting said pads to each other and being adapted to hold them in position on th head.
