UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES M. BRENNAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
EYEBROW-SHIELD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. BREN- NAN, a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyebrow-Shields, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to eye-brow shields.
It has been discovered that eye-brows, more particularly the side portions thereof, are worn away by rubbing against the pillows while the person is sleeping, and particularly when patients are confined in bed for an extended period. This wearing away is believed by many to affect the appearance of the person, and the present invention designs to provide a simple device whereby this wearing away may be effectively prevented and whereby also, the eye-brows may be treated with a chemical for the purpose of developing them.
The invention also designs to provide eyebrow shields which may be conveniently worn while the wearer is asleep and which will effectively prevent eye-brows from being worn away, and whereby a chemical may be applied to the eye-brows, and which are adjustable so as to fit eye-brows of different persons.
The invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and more particularly set forth by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective illustrating the use of the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail of one of the shields. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The improved device comprises a pair of shields 8, 9, which are similar in construction, except that they are reversely curved longitudinally to fit over the right and left Each of these or between its edges 11 and 12 to form a pocket adapted to receive the eye-brows and material for treating the eye-brows, if clesired. Each shield is formed of suitable shape to correspond generally to the curvature of the eye-brow so that the eye-brows cannot be rubbed or worn away while the shield is being worn. Furthermore, each shield is adjustable in length so that it will more accurately fit over different eye-brows, and for this purpose, each shield comprises two slidably connected overlapping mem- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 22, 1912.
Patented Mar. 11, 1913. Serial No. 692,317.
Each shield is provided with a pair of outturned eyes 20, 21 through which extends an elastic head-band 22 which extends around the back of the head, and being elastic yieldingly holds the shields in position on the eye-brows. The distance between the eye-brows of persons varies considerably, and for that reason provision is made for adjusting the shields relatively to one another on band 22. The elastic band extends through eyes 20 and 21 to exert sufficient pressure upon the shields to hold them wherever they are put. Eyes 20 and 21 permit the shields to be slipped along this band to fit over the eye-brows. To more firmly hold the shield in position and prevent possible displacement, a central band 23 extends from the front of band 22 to the back thereof and a band 24 is provided to extend around the neck and under the chin, with side-straps 25 connecting the neckband to the sides of the head-band 22, and if desired, the loop or strap 26 may extend between side-straps 25 to more securely hold. the head-band against upward displacement. Head-band 22 is adjustable by means of a loop or clasp 28. By means of these bands, the eye-brow shields will be firmly held against displacement and the shields may be comfortably, yet securely, held in proper place upon the head of a person, so
that in sleep, they will protect the eyebrows and prevent any portion from being worn away.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth, since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination of a pair of shields, each being of concave form and being reversely curved longitudinally to fit around an eye-brow, and means for adjustably holding the same in position upon the head of a person.
2. The combination of a pair of shields, each being concave in form and being reversely curved longitudinally to fit over and protect an eye-brow, and a band, the shields being provided at its ends with eyes through which the band is extended to permit the shields to be'spread apart or brought together.
3. The combination of a pair of shields,
each being concave in form and being reversely curved longitudinally to fit over an eye-brow and comprising extensibly connected members, and means for holding the shields in position over the eye-brows of a person.
4. The combination of a pair of shields, each being of concave form and being reversely curved longitudinally to fit over an eye-brow and comprising a pair of slidably connected members, and means for securing the shields over the eye-brows of a person.
5. The combination of a pair of shields, each being concave and being reversely curved longitudinally to fit over an eyebrow and comprising adjustably connected members, and means for holding the shields over the eye-brows of a person, the shields being adjustably connected to said means so they can be spread apart or brought together.
