Be it known that I, FRANK A. BURKHART,
o a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of the city of Reading, in the county, of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Brushes, vof which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to brush devices in whichI provision is made for feeding water or other cleaning fluid thereto; and it consists inthe improved` construction hereinafter fully described ,in connection with the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the claim.

The brush indicated comprises, as usual, a back portion 5 and bristles 6 suitably secured thereto; said back portion being provided in my improved construction shown, with circular apertures 7, 7, spaced apart as desired and affording access through the back to the bristles 6. In connection with this brush I employ an attachable brush holder comprising a backing platell having clamping ears or flanges 12, 12 provi ed withclamping screws 13, 13 for adjustably securing the same tothe brush back 5; said plate having an integrally formed longitudlnal ridge 14:, vext/ending the length thereof midway of thewidth. of the plate and provided with a longitudinal circular i' bore 1-5 which forms a closed liquid chamber exceptingfor the means of communication therewith hereinafter described. These means of communication include a liquid supply tube, which may comprise a rlgid plece of piping 20 adaptedto serve as a' handle as indicated or merely a flexible tubing 21 extending directly from the holder; a suitable screw connection 22 to the latter vbeing provided in either case to ermit of its being readily lattached or detac ed. DetachabljT secured in like manner to the under side of4 the holder, vare feed tubes 23, 23, which are spacedapart to correspond rwith the brush back apertures 7 7, and the rigidly attached screw threaded ends 24 of which communicate with the liquid chamber 15 while the `projecting lower fportions 25 are provided wlth side wall per orations 26 through which the liquid is adapted to be discharged. The longitudinal bore 15 forming the liquid chamber of the holder, is provided, ateither one end or both as preferred, with a removableA closure plug 27 which permits of ready access thereto for cleaning.
The feed or discharge tubes 23 are long enough to project through the apertures 7 of the brush back, vso that the discharge through the perforations 26 mayproperly distribute the 'liquid to the bristle portion of the brush; the extent of thisprojection being readily varied if desired by' proper adjustment of the brush holder upon the brush back by means of the clamping screws 13. It will be readily seen also that all the flow passages may be easily and thoroughly cleaned so as to insure proper action, and
also proper sanitary conditions where the use to which the device is applied makes this desirable. What I claim `is:
In combination` with a brush having feedtube apertures in the back thereof, a'separately formed brush holder comprislng av backing plate attachable to said brush and having a liquid chamber formed by a bored passage-way extending longitudinally` thereof andt provided with a removable end closures, rigid feed-tubes arranged at right-angles to said vbored chamber and projecting through said brush-back apertures, and a chamber-communicating supply tube, substantially as set forth.
