Description

R. VOLTOLINI.
SHAVING BRUSH.
4 APPLICATION FILED MAY1o,192o.
Patented Mar. 7, 1922.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICCARDO VOLTOLINI, 0F WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
SHAVING BRUSH.
Application filed May 10,
which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to shaving brushes.
The object is to construct a brush in which the same will be soaped automatically on the wetting of the bristles of the brush.
Another object is to provide a brush with a hollow handle having apertures that communicate with the bristles of the brush, and
, to arrange in the handle a quant-ity of soap Aarrangement of parts, such as is or other saponaceous matter and to provide a follower contacting with the said soap to feed the same against the apertured head of the brush, and thus direct the same on to the bristles of the brush.
The foregoing objects, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative disclosed by the drawings.
In the drawings z- Figure l is an elevation of a shaving brush constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an approximately central vertical longitudinal sectional view, through the same, and on an enlarged scale.
Figure 3 is a transverse section approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure l. s
In the drawings the numeral l designates the brush in its entirety. This brush has its bristle portion detachably associated with the handle thereof. The bristles 2 are secured on a hollow, preferably cylindrical head 3, and the lower wall of this head is apertured as at 4, the said apertures providing communications between the head and bristles.
Preferably the hollow head 3 is detachably secured onto the handle 5. The handle is hollow, that is the same has a longitudinal, preferably round bore 6 therethrough. When the brush head is connected to the handle there is passed through the bore of the latter a soap stick 7. Contacting with the outer end of the soap stick so as to Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 7, 1922. 1920. Serial No. 380,252.
force the same against the perforated wall of the head 3 is the disk element 8. Secured to the disk is a stem 9 that passes through a screw lO. The screw l0 is exteriorly threaded and adapted to be received by the interior threads 14 in the outer end of the handle, and the stem 9 is movable through Vthe screw l0. Between the knob and the disk 8, and surrounding the stem 9 is a helical spring ll. It will be apparent that the spring will force the disk tightly against the soap 7, and when the brush 2 is immersed in water the liquid will dissolve the soap at the end contacting` with the perforated wall t. By turning the screw lO the tension of the spring 9 can be adjusted. Also by turning the screw in an opposite direction the follower can be removed, as can the soap stick. A used soap stick can be readily replaced and in lieu of the employment of a solid element, such as the soap stick illustrated, saponaceous matter of a like consistency can be arranged in the hollow head 3 and contacted by the disk. The brush can be readily cleaned. and it is believed that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and advantages thereof to those skilled in the art to which such inventions rel ate.
Having thus described the invention.` what I claim is A device of the class described comprising a brush head provided with bristles and perforations between said bristles, a hollow handle connected to said head and adapted to receive a soap stick therein, a disc element contacting with the outer end of said stick to force the same against the perforated wall of said head, a screw adjustable in the bore of the handle from the outer end thereof, a stem secured to Vsaid disc element, said handle having interior threads provided on the outer end thereof, said screw being eX- teriorly threaded and adapted to be received by the interior threads in the outer end of the handle, said stem being movable through the screw, a helical spring arranged between the screw and disc and surrounding the stem.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
