R. ANZALONE FOUNTAIN TOOTHBRUSH Filed DSG. 2.0. 1924 INVENTOR l poer' Qqjazwe BY- 'i W @'ATTORNEY- Patented Apr. 13, 1926. I
ROBERT ANZALONE, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
FOUNTAIN 'liOOTHBRUSI-I.
Application led December 20, 1924. lSerial No. 757,121.
To all whom t mag/concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnirr ANZALONF., a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Toothbrushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toothbrushes, the invention having more particular ,reference to a self moistening type of toothbrush.
The invention has for an object the provision of a novel toothbrush of this type arranged to be attached to a faucet by a flexible tubing to receive water frm the said faucet, a further object relating to the provision of means for controlling the flow of water to the brush to deliver the water in varying quantities to diffe-rent parts of the brush as may be desired., I
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages' thereof, reference will be had to the' following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the varionsv novel features of the invention are more` particularly set forth. j
Fig. 1 of the drawing is aside elevational view of my improved toothbrush.
` Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional `view ,showing a modification, this view being taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 4.
Fi 4 is a fragmentary longitudinal sections. view' taken at right angles to' Fig. 3 and on the line 4.-4 of the latter figure.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3.
j Referring now to the drawing my improved brush comprises a backing element 10 of ordinary shape and material into which are set the brush bristles 11, iis backing element being extended at one end in the form of handlev12; Entered longitudinally into the handle 12 is a boring 14 that 'extends also partially along the backingelement 10 and is arranged to communicate with the face of said backing element to which the bristles are secured, the said backing element having 'a number of apertures 15 that communicate with the said boring. nTo the end'of the handle 12 is attached one end of a rubber. tube 17 whose ber 18 that is adapted for attachment to a water faucet. l
As shown more clearly in Figs. 3 to 5 I may mount a valve device inthe boring 14 to control the apertures or ports 15 in the member 10. As here shown a tube 20 is inserted in the said boring and is formed with a number of arcuate apertures 21 spaced therealong, and registering with the aperture 15 in the member 10, one lend of this tube being open to receive the Water flowing through the boring 14. The other end of this tube is closed and has bearing thereon a coiled expansion spring 22 located in the end of the boring 14. The apertures 21 in the tube 20 are given a rogressive arcuate or helical positioning with respect end of the tube with the adjacent apertures in the said member 10. In order to enable j the tube 20 to ,be moved longitudinally and partially rotated it h-as a stud 23- fixed to .one end thereof and projecting through a transverse slot 24 entered into the rear face of the backing member 10.y As will be apparent by adjusting the tube 2O in a rotary direction the flow of water may be directed toward either end ofthe brushes desired by the user. By moving the tube longitudinally in the boring 14 the apertures therein may be moved as a unit out of registry with the apertures in the member 10. It will be understood of course that the tube 20 has suiiicient frictional engagement in the boring 14 to vmaintain the rotary position to which it is adjusted: l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States as--fol- 100 formed with a longitudinal boring and hav- 105 ing a number of apertures spaced' there'- along and leading from the said face into the said boring, and a valve in said boring for selectively controlling the said apertures, said valve being in the form vof a] 11 sleeve arranged lfor rotary and longitudinal adjustment in the said boring and having a number of arcuate apertures therein spaced longitudinally in accordance' with the apertures in the backing.
lrespect to one another.
forl selectively controlling the said apertures, said valve being in the form of a sleeve arranged for rotary and lonvitudinal adjustment in the said boring and having a number .of arcuate apertures therein spaced :longitudinally in accordance with .the apertures in thel backing, said arcuate apertures having a helical positioning With 1n testimony whereof I have affixed my Signature.
` `ROBERT ANZALONE.
