This invention relates to fountain shaving brushes.

One object of the invention is to provide a fountain shaving brush wherein a reservoir '5 has improved detachable coaction with the shaving brush.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a shaving brush having an improved valve mounting and operating means for controlling the valve. r

Another object of the invention is to furnish a device of the character 'described'having few and simple parts, and which is inexpensive to manufacture,neat and compact,

1 convenient to operate, and rugged, reliable and eflicient in use. I

Other objects and advantages of the invention will'become apparent as the specification proceeds.

With the aforesaid objects in View, the invention consists in the novel combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described' in their preferred embodiments, pointed outin the subj oined claims, and illus- 251 trated on they annexed drawings, wherein like parts are designated by the same retc-ren'ce characters throughout the several views.

V r The advantages of the invention as here outlined are best realized when all of its features and instrumentalities are combined in one and the same structure, but, useful devices may be produced embodying less than 40 the whole.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art towhich this invention appertains, that the same may be incorporated in several different constructions. The accompanying drawings, therefore, are submitted merely as showing the preferred exemplification of the invention.

' While the invention has been embodied in a fountain shaving brush, it will be understood that the invention'can also be employed in other devices and for otherpurposes where a supply of material is to be fed from a reservoir under control of a valve to a suitable means for applying said material, and the terms of the invention are to be interpreted accordingly.

Referring in detail tothe drawings 10 de notes a fountain shaving brush embodying the invention. The same may include a shaving brushllhaving a head 12 and bristles 13 secured therein in a conventional manner. o

To feed a lathering material to the shavingbrusli,-a reservoir 14: is provided which may contain a liquid soap, whereby the application of lathering material is rendered convenient, rapid, and without waste. Since the reservoir is normally connected to the shaving brush head, as at 15, the supply of soap is always instantly available for use. By 0011- structing the reservoir to constitute a handle for the brush, a neat and compact arrangement is obtained which is easy to manipulate.

Where the shaving brush is used by a barber or in other public places, it is desirable that the reservoir shall bedetachable from the shaving brush, in order that the latter may be thoroughly cleaned so, as to meet all sanitary requirements. The reservoir 14 may be made of any suitable material such as metal, bakelite or variousways, as by a press fit, by adhesives,

or by vulcanizing or soldering, andit may also be retained by the head of the brush which abuts thereagainst in the connected relation of the reservoir. V

Formed centrally in'said plate is a valve open and seat 21 adapted to be closed by a valve22 which is positioned on the outside of said plate. A suitable means may be pro vided for operating the valve, which may include a bar 23 transverse to the axis of the valve and slidingly mounted in an opening 24 in the side wall of the reservoir to permit lengthwise movement of said bar. Adjacent to the end of the push bar 23 is a disc 25' against which bears an expansion coil spring 26 alined with the bar, the other end of which bearsagainst the reservoir wall around an alining pin 27. Outside of the reservoir, a finger piece 28 is connected to the push bar, whereby the force of the spring may be overcome, the spring serving to return the bar to normal position.

Connected'pivotally to the bar at 29 is a member or link 30, the other end of which is preferably pivotally connected at 31 with the valve or a stud 32. The valve may be removably threaded onto the stud at 38. The link 'n ent desired;

that when the push bar is moved toward the left the valve is opened. lVhen the button 28 released, the spring 26 moves the push bar toward the right, so that the link exerts tension on the valve to close the same. By making the acute angle su'liiciently small the valve is adapted to accurately close, especially if the seat is of sufi lcient size or of a universal ball joint type. In operation, the valve may act as a stop for the spring 26. Thus a very simple and reliable operating means is provided. 7 i

W hen the valve is opened, soap is free to iiow through an opening or passage 34 in the brush head to the bristles 13, in a well known manner. Thus the precise amount of soap may be accurately fed to the brush, at the molVhen the reservoir is detached, the valve is stillclosed so that the contents of the reservoir may not be spilled and to permit the latter to be conveniently handled. Then the shaving brush including all parts thereof may be fully cleaned.

It will be understood that various details oi the reservoir may be changed, and the same may be made in any number of parts or pieces. The construction shown is believed to have advantage in simplicity and compact-- ness and also for assembling. Thus the valve mounting and operating means may be first placed in position, then the plate 20, and finally the valve 22 may be screwed in place. For the same reasons, the devicemay be read ily taken apart for inspection, and repair.

It will be appreciated that various changes and modifications may be made in the device as shown in the drawings, and that the same may be considered as submitted in an illustrative and not in a limiting sense, the scope of the invention being defined in the following claims.

I claim 1. A fountain shaving brush, including a brush head, a reservoir detachably connected thereto, said reservoir and the brush head having communicating openings for supplying a lathering material to the bristles of the brush, a valve for said opening coaxial with the reservoir, a bar mounted in the reservoir for endwise movement transversely to the axis of the valve, a coil spring alined with said bar and acting between the same and the wall of the reservoir, said bar having a portion extending outside of the reservoir and a finger piece on said end portion, and a link connectin the valve and the bar at an acute angle with said valve axis, whereby the finger piece and the spring move said bar in opposite directions lengthwise of the bar for closing and opening the valve in the axial direction mentioned.

2. A fountain shaving brush, including a brush head, a reservoir for liquid soap connected to the brush to supply soap thereto, said reservoir havingv an end wall provided with a guide opening, a valve axially alined with the reservoir and axially movable in said opening for controlling the flow of the soap, a bar mounted transversely of the axis and having a linger outside of the reservoir for lengthwise movement of the bar, and a member connected to the valve and the bar at an acute angle with said axis, whereby the valve is axially moved for opening or closing on lengthwise movement of said bar.
