MILK-BOTTLE CLOSURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 1913.
Application filed October 2, 1912. Serial No. 723,571.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYDNEY H. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk- Bottle Closures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled'in the art to which it appertain's to make and use the same.
This invention relates to closures for milk bottles.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of amilk bottle closure which will preserve all of the advantages of the paper cap closure now in common use and at the -same time enhance the facility with which such cap may be applied to and removed from the mouth of a milk bottle.
With the above and other objects in. view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference. will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- I Figure'l is a plan view of the upper portion of a milk bottleshowing the improved closure applied, and Fig. 2 a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 10 indicates the upper portion of a milk bottle which is provided with the usual interior shoulder I 11 upon which the paper cap 12 is adapted to seat to effect the closing of the bottle. Disposed on opposite sides of the paper cap 12 are disks 13 and '14 which are arranged concentrically with respect to the cap 12.
The disks l3 and 14 and the cap 12 are pierced centrally by a screw 15 the inner end of which is provided with a head 16, which bears against the disk 14, while the outer end of said screw is threaded as at 17 and has engaged thereon a knob 18. By this construction it will be apparent that by gripping the knob 18 the cap 12 may be easily inserted in and removed from the mouth of the milk bottle 10 and all necessity of prying the cap 12 to effect its removal obviated.
It will be apparent that by the use of a closure constructed as previously described the paper cap 12 will not be injured by the insertion and removal of same from a milk bottle.
It will be understood that while the disks 13 and 14 are preferably constructed of thin metal any other suitable material may be employed for that purpose if desired or found advantageous.
What I claim is A bottle closure comprising a cap adapted for insertion in the mouth of a bottle with its periphery in engagement with the inner wall of the bottle neck, commensurate disks disposed on opposite sides of the cap concentric to the latter and having their adjacent faces in contact with the disk throughout the extent of said faces, a screw engaged through the central portion of said disk and cap, said screw having its head engaged against one of the disks, and a knob threaded on the screw and engaged with the other disk and serving in conjunction with the head ofthe screw to compactly clamp the cap and disk together.
In testimony whereof, I' aflix my signature', in presence of two witnesses.
