ALBERT IBQLIN, OFI WORCESTER, I MASSACHUSETTS. i
GUR'IAINI AND SHADE FIXTURE.
T0 alliwhom z'tmay concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT BOLIN,I21. citizen of the United States of America residingv at: Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of llfassachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements; in Gurtainand Shade Fixtures of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates: to curtain and shade fixtures, and it has for its object .to produce bracket-guides or supports of simple and improved construction which may: be very conveniently; and easily applied itoian. ordinary window frame, said guideshaving associated therewithi an adjustable bracket member for supporting a shade roller and a curtain pole.
A further object of the invention is to provide forthe adjustment of the bracket;
members to curtain poles of varyinglengths.
A furtheriobject of the invention is ,to simplify and improveithe generali construction and operationof :a device of theicharacter described;
With these and other ends in view :whichi will readily appear as the=nature of the invention is better understood the same a con.- sists in the improved construction and novel. arrangement 1 and} combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being,however, understood that no limitationis necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope ofthe claims maybe resorted to when desired? In the drawing,,Figure1 isa view: in: elevation of the upper portionof a window frame equipped with: the improved bracket guides and showing a shade roller and a. curtain pole associated therewith. Fig.1 2. is a perspective View. showing one of the bracket guides and related lpartsdetached. Fig. 3 is a perspective .view showingthe bracket guide in inverted position. Fig. 4 is a sectional. view. taken transversely through the bracket guide and through the adjustable bracket or supporting member, said section being laid in the planeindicated by the line 47-4; in Fig. ;1 but on anienlarged scale. i
g )aIts in the several figures Correspondin re i characters of reference.
are denoted by Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, 1913.
Application filed. November 8, 1910. s rial No. 591,231.:
The device includes right and left hand: bracket guides A, .A, each of said bracket guides consisting of a metallic strip .1 of
suitable dimensions, the ends of which are bent on lines extending dlagonally across the.
body of the strip so as to form lugs 2, {3,
each of said lugs, being; disposed approxi;-.
mately at right angles to the body of the strip ldwhile the said lugs 2, 3 are CllSPOSBds in. planes approximately at right angles to i one another. The lug 12, whichris located;
at whatmay be properly.designatedlhe upper :end of the stripl, is formed or pro-i vided with a spur 101. prong 4, and the lug;
3iat the lower end of the strip has anaperture 15.
The bracket, guide or strip llis provided? with a longitudinal slot 6 for .the passage.
standingear orlug 91and anupwardly ex-u tending post 10,,which latter isf provided. with a hook-shaped iarm 11. [The thumb son 13 lyingwithin the slot 6, thereby locking the nut iagainstrotation when the screw is manipulated for thepurpose ofloosening screw? engages a nut 12 havinga shoulder or tightening the slide 8.
Ordinary screw eyes 14: are provided to engage the apertured lugs 3 for. the purpose of securingthe bracket guides in position.
In: operation, the right and ilefti hand bracket guides A,A are secured diagonally;
across the window frame adjacent to the upper corners of the latter, the prongs 4 being; nserted or embedded injthe top of the frame or casing, after whichithe screw eyes.14=;are
inserted "through the apertured. lugs into the sides of the frame or casing. Each bracket guide will thus be held securely by a single the prong 4.
It will be observed that the bracket guidesi freely. By moving, the slides upwardly in the slots 6 of the bracket guides, whichzlat screw because it is therebyheld against the vertical movement necessary to disengage i are provided upon their under faces with bosses or projections 15, whereby they are: spaced from the face of the window casing; sufliciently topermit the slides 8 to move willybe moved apart from each other... It
follows that shade rollers of varying lengths 1 may be securely supported for rotation in the ears 9 of the said brackets,=which latter are fitted in the customary manner to CO- operate with spring rollers of the well known kind. It will be observed that this;
adjustment may be conveniently made after the bracket guides 1, 1 have been secured in position, thus enabling the shade rollers to p shade rollers in a perfectly level position.
' The hook-shaped arms 11 may be of any desiredshape and general constructionto cofoperate with'thetype of curtain pole which it is'desire'dto support.
Itwill be seen from the foregoing de-1 scription' that these improved curtain fix tures may be readily mounted without the use ofany tool whatever, neither hammer,
screw driver or any other tool being necessary for the purpose. Contrariwise, the -fiX- tures may be easily detached in a moments time without leaving a single disfiguring,
mark in the face of the window casingor any place where .such mark would be per-I manently visible- After mounting the fixtures the shades and curtain poles may be; easily hung and adjusted. The c'onstruction is simple and inexpensive, and the improved fixtures are prjzu zticallyl indestructible, be ng composed of few parts which; wlth the exception of the screw eyes, do not require to be disassembled.
It is obvious'that in place of the screw;
eye's,he'aded screws of any suitable construc- 1 tion may be used.
L .Having thus described the invent-ion, what is cla m d as new, is 1 '1. Ina curtainfixture, a bracket guide? consisting ofa body strip having its opposing {end portions bent; to form-lugs forengagement with'th'e horizontal and vertical faces .ofia'jsupport, theg-lines of bend of the respective lugs beingat anangle to the 1011- gitudinal medial line of the strip and at]ap proximately right angles to each other,
combination with bracket slidably mounted on the guide for adjustment both vertically and laterally with respect to the sup port. I p 2.111 a device of the character described,q
right and left hand bracket guides eachv consisting. of a longitudinally slotted rigid 5, tially at right angles to the body of the strip 1 strip having terminal lugs disposed substanandlying in planes at right anglesjto 'o'ne another, means associated with the lugs; I
whereby the guides may be secured upona window easing, supporting brackets slidably engaging the guides, fastening screws ex} tending through the brackets and through the slots of the guides, nuts on the fastening screws having shoulders engaging the engaging corners thereof, each of said bracketguides comprisin a strip having terminal lugs formed'su stantiallyatright angles to one another and to the .b'odyof the strip and engaging respectively the top edge and .a side edge of the frame or casing, one of said lugs being provided with an integral frame engaging prongfand the other with an aperture for the passage of a fastening member;
in combination with brackets movably sup ported on the said" guides, and means for securing the brackets in .adjusted position whereby, bymoving the brackets upwardly or downwardly the distance between said brackets may be varied. In testimony whereof If iaflixxmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
