To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NORVEN PROVENOI-IER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, county of Hillsboro, and State of New Hampshire, have invented an Improvement in Combined Shade-Brackets and Curtain-Pole Supports, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, likenumerals on the drawing representing like parts.

This invention has for its object to provide a combined shade bracket and curtain pole support which is adjustable so that the shade bracket feature may be used either for a shade which is supported in front of the window frame, or one which is supported between the sides of the window frame, and which is further adjustable so that the curtain pole support can be used on either end thereof. The device is also adjustable in such a way that it can be used for either the right or left-hand side of the window, as desired.

I willfirst describe one embodiment of my invention, and then point out the novel features thereof in the appended claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of one of my improved combination brackets showing'a portion of the curtain supported thereby; Fig. 2 is a top plan View of Fig. 1 showing the window frame in section; Fig. 3 is a section on the line mw, Fig. 2; Fig. 4- is a side View of the curtain pole support.

My improved bracket comprises a base or supporting member 2 which is adapted to be secured to the window frame and which is also adapted to carry a curtain pole support 3, and a bracket member 4 which is adjustably carried by the base or support 2. Said base or support can be secured to the window frame 5 in any suitable way, and I prefer to accomplish this by providing said base or support with two or more laterally-extending ears 6 which are adapted to be screwed to the window frame by suitable screws 7. These ears are offset slightly, as best seen in Fig. 3, so as to carry the body of the supporting plate 2 away from the window frame 5, as best seen in Fig. 2.

The bracket member 4 is provided with a foot 9 which is adjustable on the base 2 and is sustained thereon by means of suitable lips 8 which are formed on the base and are adapted to embrace the edges of said foot.

The bracket 4% is also a reversible bracket, that is, it can be used with the bracket portion extending outwardly from the window frame, as shown in full lines Fig. 2, or it can be reversed in position so 5 as to bring the bracket portion within the sides of the window frame, as shown in dotted lines Fig. 2.

WVindow shades are sometimes set inside the window frame and sometimes they are placed outside the window frame. Heretofore one special shape of bracket has been required where the shades are set inside the window frame, and another shape of bracket has been required where the shades are set outside the window frame. With my improved arrangement the same bracket can be used for either position of the shade, and thus anyone using my brackets may change the position of the shade if they so desire.

The base 2 of my bracket is provided with projecting ends 120 which are adapted to receive the curtain pole support 3, the latter being provided with the looped portion 130 which is arranged to slip over said projecting ends and also being provided with the supporting portion 140 in which the curtain pole is adaptedto rest. The base has such a projecting end 120 at each end thereof, and thus the curtain pole support 8 can be sustained from either end of the bracket. It will be obvious, however, that this support 3 must be placed on the opposite end of the base from that at which the bracket 4: is situated, but the bracket l may be used at either end of the base. The device is thus adapted to be used either on the right hand or the left hand of the window, and it is not necessary to have rights and lefts. My improved bracket is, therefore, not only reversible, but a universal bracket.

I have not attempted to illustrate all embodiments of my invention, but have shown the preferred embodiment only.

Having fully described my invention,

what I claim as new and desire to secure by I Letters Patent is In a shade fixture, the combination with a base or support having a projection 120 extending from each end thereof, of a shade bracket having a slotted foot to overlie said base, said base having lips 8 on each side to embrace the foot, means to clamp the base to the foot, and a curtain pole fixture adapted to be sustained by either of the projecting ends, and means to secure said base to a window frame.
