W. L. OSBORN & G. LUKAT. PIPE WRENOH. APPLIOATION FILED rmm, 1912.

WITNESSES INVENTORS.
I g W Z. Osliorn WILLIAIVI L. OSBORN AND GUST LUKAT, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
PIPE-WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 2, 1912. Serial No. 674,935.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM L. OSBORN and GUST LUKAT, citizens of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Wrenches; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' This invention relates to new and useful improvements in the well known form of a pipe wrench in which an extra gripping jaw is made integral therewith, whereby there will be a greater gripping surface in turning the pipe.
A. well-known form of pipe wrenches generally consists of a handle having two jaws which are to encircle the pipe, one of the jaws having a gripping face for engaging the pipe, and this invention is to improve wrenches of that type by making integral with one of the jaws of the well-known form of a pipe wrench, a pair of similarly inverted jaws, whereby greater gripping surface may be had.
This invention consists further of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will hereinafter be more fully described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings :Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the improved invention; Fig. 2 illustrates an end elevation thereof; and Fig. 3 a rear elevation.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, where like parts are indicated by like references, throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates the handle of my improved wrench which is made of any approved material having an enlarged end 2, which is separated into two parts, forming the jaws, one of the said jaws 3 having a smooth inner face and the opposite jaw &
having serrations 5 on the inner face thereof, forming gripping teeth, which are adapted to engage the pipe when turning the same.
Extending at right angles from the smooth jaw 3 is a knob 6 havin substantially an inverted wrench 7 secured thereto. The inverted wrench 7 is of substantially the same construction as the first mentioned wrench having gripping jaws 8 and 9, the inner surface of the jaw 9 being smooth while the inner surface of the jaw 8 is provided with serrations or teeth 10.
It will be seen more clearly from Fig. 1 of the drawing that an open space 11 is provided between the two Wrenches whereby the wrench proper may be put over a pipe and the jaws substantially covering the periphery of the pipe and by pressing on the handle the pipe may be turned with ease.
Having thus clearly described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by- Letters Patent, is
A pipe wrench of the class described consisting of an arm having an enlarged end, said enlarged end being split to form two jaws, one of said jaws having a smooth inner face, the other of said jaws having teeth formed on its inner face, an arm made integral with one of said jaws and extending at right angles therefrom, and an enlarged portion formed on the end of said arm, said enlarged portion being split to form two jaws, one of said jaws having a smooth inner face and the opposite jaw having teeth formed on its inner face, lying at the same angle as the teeth formed on the first mentioned jaw, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures'in presence of two witnesses.
