Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Apr. 1,1913;
Application filed December 21, 1911. Serial No. 667,076.
ERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shoshone, in the county of Lincoln, State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to. tool holders and more particularly to that class of tool holders which are adapted to detachably hold a rasp or similar tool in secured position. It I will of course be understood, however, that the invention may be used for any purpose to which it may be adapted.
The object of this invention is to provide a resilient holder having tool gripping flanges and means for drawing them toward each other.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder of simple construction consisting of very few parts, thereby permitting it to be manufactured very cheaply.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure 1 is a top plan view of the tool holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same and showing a rasp secured thereto. Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the invention consists of a holder comprising a base 10 having upwardly extending longitudinal flanges 11. Mounted on the base at opposite ends thereof is a handle 12 and a hand piece 13. A longitudinal slot 14, which is formed in one side of the base, extends inwardly from the front end thereof and terminates at a point in spaced relation to the rear end. It will thus be observed that the slot-14: forms a resilient finger 16. A.trans-. verse recess 17 is formed in the upper part of the-base and extends across the slot 14 at a point in spaced relation to the ends thereof. A screw 18, or other tightening means, connects the two upwardly extending flanges 11, the body of the screwbeing disposed in the recess 17. Extending below the base are downwardly extending longitudinal tool holding flanges 19 which are adapted to engage the sides of the tool 20.
In the application of a tool to the holder, the tool is placed between the two tool gripping flanges and the tightening means is adjusted so that the sides of the tool are engaged by the flanges.
\Vhat is claimed, is:
A tool holder comprising a bifurcated base, flanges formed at opposite longitudinal edges of said base and extending above and below the same, the said flanges below the base being uniform with respect to each other and at equal depth throughout their length and means engaged in the flanges above the base for contracting the said flanges below the base whereby a tool disposed therebetween will be firmly and se- CLARENCE B.
