Description

Fatented. A ia 1, 1913 WITNESSES v onion.
UMBRELLA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1, 11913.
Application filed October 22, 1912. Serial No. 727,091.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER TATRO, a sub ject of the King of Great Britain. residing Attawau'gan. in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Umbrellas, of which the following is a specification', reference being had therein to the accompanying-drawing.
This invention rel te5.. to"tiliibIElltiS and has special reference'to a detachable cover therefor, in combination with a simple and efficient means for attaching the cover to the frame of the umbrella.
Another object of this invention the production of a plurality of portions struck from the rib for holding the button which attaches the cover to the frame.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1, is a view of an umbrella as constructed in accordance with this invention, the cover being applied thereto. Fig. 2, is a side ,elevat-ion of a portion of a rib showing the attach ing means carried thereby. Fig. 3, is a transverse section taken through the attaching means and rib. Fig. 4, is an enlarged detail View showing the rib and struck out portion. Fi 5, is a view showing a button hole in t e cover.
Referring to the accomphnying drawing by numerals it will be seen that the device consists of the usual statif 20, handle 21, and
l ribs 23. In connection with the frame there 1 is provided a cover 25 having button holes 26 at the end of each seam. Each rib 93 has i certain portions strut-hv out and bent upward i as at 38. These portions are formed adjacent the outer end of the rib 23 and are bent back upon the rib so as to extend in. the same able to stand a considerable strain without bending in the middl The outer ends of the struck, out portions are provided with a rivet 31) which passes through the eye it) of the button .1. The umbrella cover is provided with a centrally disposed opening cured to a ring 42 arranged to tit upon the stall 20 and it will be seen that by slipping this ring'orer the point of the staff 20 and bultoning the cover on to the button the same may be readily placed on the frame and by reversed operation may as readily be removed.
Having thus described the invention. what is claimed as new, is:
The combination with an umbn' ".la rib provided with portions struck from the sides of said rib, said portions bent upwardly and back upon said rib so as to extend in the same plane as said rib whereby to relieve the strain upon said portions, and a button carried by the upper ends of said portions.
In testimony whereof I hereunto attiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OLIVER TATRO.
