Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICF.
. FREDRIGK J. DRUM, OF CALLAVVAY, NEBRASKA.
NEQK-YOKE CENTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 1905.
Application filed April 5, 1905. Serial No. 254.018.
T0 @ZZ whom it may concern:
ported by two retaining-ears, secured by pins, Y
which also serve in securing the sleeve to the center, as will be described more fully hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown in Figure l a front elevation, with portions removed, of a neck-yoke center embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line c in the direction of the arrow, while Fig. 3 discloses a detail of the stiffening-ring and one of the retaining-ears.
To provide a neck-yoke center which shall be strong, be tightly securedto the sleeve, and be constructed to, remain in a flat and sightly condition is the object of this invention.
In the accompanying drawings Ihave shown in Fig. l a broken portion of a neck-yoke B, to which is secured the neck-yoke center.
My center comprises one or more layers of leather A, is of the usual shield-shape conformation, and is provided with the usual central pole-tip opening l, as shown in Fig. 1. Surrounding the opening Lis a groove 3, as shown in Fig. 2, within which is embedded a metal ring 2 to reinforce the opening and stiften the neck-yoke center. The ring 2 is provided with tw'o similar retaining-ears (marked 4 and l!) placed upon opposite sides, as shown in Fig. l, and these retaining-ears are provided with the ring portions 6 and 6, which surround the ring, as shown in Figs. l and 8. These retaining-ears are provided with the slots, (marked 5 and 5', respectively, in the drawings,) each being adapted to receive a retaining-pin or rivet, (marked 7 and 7'.) These retaining-ears are securely held between the leather layers, the layers being sufiiciently compressed to embed these retaining-ears.
Above the neck-yoke center A is provided with a slot extending downward a suitable distance, as is disclosed by the dotted line in Fig. l, the slot extending below the position of the pins or rivets 7 and 7. This slot is of a width equaling double the thickness of the sleeve C, so that the ends of the sleeve may be brought together and forced into the slot, the whole being secured by means of suitable stitching or otherwise, when the pinsare secured, having their heads flanged, so that these pins assist in holding the sleeve ends within the neck-yoke center as well as carrying the retaining-ears supporting the ring or annulus 2, as shown. By this means an exceedingly strong construction is provided, insuring the neck-yoke remaining in a Hat condition.
In Fig. l I have shown four lines of stitching, one line surrounding, upon opposite sides, the annulus. f
The face portion of the neck-yoke is provided with a section of leather c, forming a shield, as is shown in Fig. 2, and this shield may be suitably embellished, if desired.
These neck-yoke centers are made in various sizes and of suitable material.
Having thus described my said invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-
A neck-yoke center provided with the usual central opening and having a slot above and an annular groove surrounding the opening, in combination with a sleeve portion, said sleeve portion having its ends united and secured within said slot, of a ring within said annular groove, two retaining-ears extending upward and in opposite direction from saidring, said ears being provided with slots, and retaining-pins passing entirely through said neck-yoke center the sleeve portion and said retaining-ears, substantially as disclosed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
