Be it known that I, ORRIN TABER, of Nashua, county of Hillsborough, State of New Hampshire, have invented an Improvement in Jockey-Plates, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention has for its object to improve the construction of jockey plates whereby they may be more easily finished and cheaply manufactured, and my invention consists in details of construction to be hereinafter pointed out.

Figure l, shows in front elevation a jockey plate embodying this invention, the parts thereof being separated; Fig. 2, a rear side view of the jockey plate as shown in Fig. l; Fig. 3, a front elevation of the jockey plate assembled, the shape of one part however being slightly modified; Figs. 4. and 5, details of the fastenings employed for securing the parts together; Fig. 6, a side View of a saddle with my improved jockey plate thereon, showing particularly its location, and Fig. 7, an edge view of the jockey plate, a portion of the running back band being represented by dotted lines.

The jockey plate is herein represented. as composed essentially of two parts a, b. The part a is formed as a at Y'plate cut away at one side to present two arms a', a', each provided with a hole a2 to receive the screw a3. The body portion of said plate a, has also a central hole a4, see Figs. l and 2, yet in Fig. 3 it will be seen that said plate is made smaller or cut oft, and hence the hole a4 is omitted. The edge of the plate is beveled upon its front side as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.

The plate a is provided upon its under or rear side with a marginal rib a5 extending around the body part and terminating at a point near the extremities of the arms a', and also with a marginal rib a6 extending along the lower edge of the cut away portion, thereby leaving a substantially fiat surface between the ends of said ribs. The part b is formed as a plate having a central depression b ,increasing in depth toward the inner edge, and at each side of said depression a hole h2 is formed adapted to register with the holes a2 formed in the arms a which receive the screws a3.

In securing the plates a, l) together, and to the saddle the plate a will be laid upon the plate Z9, in such manner that the arms overlap said plate b at each side of the central depression b', as represented in Figs. 3 and 6, and the holes in said plates will then register. The inner edge of the plate b will at such time bear against the ends of the marginal rib 0,6, and shoulders b3, which may be formed on said plate b will bear against the ends of the marginal rib a5, and when in such position, the screws as will be inserted, passed through the jockey or covering ofthe saddle, or other material part thereof and supplied with nuts a7. The central depression b"of the plate b, co-operating with the cut away portion in the plate a forms a recess for the running back band fn.

By making the jockey plates in two parts as shown, they may be more easily finished than when made in a single piece, as for instance no special machinery will be required to iinish the central depression h of plate'b, and

Yby forming the marginal ribs a5, a6, on plate a, said plate is stiffened, as well as guides formed for facilitating assembling the parts.

I claiml. The jockey plate herein described cousisting ot two plates a, b, and means for securing them together, one of which plates as b, has a central depression b increasing in depth toward the edge, the middle portions of the adjacent edges of said plates cooperating with said central depression to form a recess for the running back band, substantially as described.

The jockey plate herein described consisting of the plate o., cut away to present arms a', a', holes a2 formed in said arms and the plate b having a central depression b', at each side of which a hole b2 is formed adapted to register with the holes a2 in the arms a', and screws d2 passing through said holes which secure the plates together, substantially as described.

3. The jockey plate herein described consisting of the plate a, cut away to present arms a a' holes a2 formed in said arms, and a hole as formed in the body portion of said IOO plate, and the plate b having a central depression b', at each side of which a hole b2 is formed adapted to register with the holes a? in the arms a', and screws a2 passing through sald holes which secure the plates together, substantially as described.

41 The jockey plate herein described consisting of the plate a cut away to present arms a', a', holes a2 formed in said arms, and the marginal ribs a5, a formed on the rear side of said plate as shown, and the plate l) having a central depression b at each side of which a hole b2 is formed adapted to register with the holes a2 in the arms a', when abutting against the ends of said marginal ribs a5, a, and screws passing through said holes to secure the plates together, substantially as described.
