BIGYGLE SADDLE.
Wiimeaaea.
AM DRDH GHAHAHJNUTU um!) WASNINBTDN 0c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
(IIARL IS I). CUTTING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-SADDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,988, dated December 17, 1895.
Application filed August 23, 1895. Serial No. 560,288. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES 1). CUTTING, a citizen of the l'nited States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Saddles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This design relates to saddles, and more particularly pneumatic saddles for bicycles, and has for its object to provide a novel and ornamental saddle which presents to the eye a characteristic and distinguishing appearance.
The leading feature of the design consists of a forwardly-projecting pommel on the median line of the saddle and a triangular opening at the center of the saddle, conforming generally to the outline of the saddle.
The design is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a saddle embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a plan view thereof.
In the drawings, A indicates the back of the saddle formed on the are of a circle, and B the sides thereof, also formed on a curve merging into the curve of the back of the saddle and continuing forward toward the median line from the side edges in a compound curve, which meet at the median line and form the ponunel C, projecting forward of a line drawn across the ends B.
At the center the saddle has an opening I), generally triangular in shape, the walls of which curve to conform to the general outline of the outer edges of the saddle.
In side view the saddle presents a flat or plane surface along the bottom edge thereof, while along the top it has a generally rounding appearance, the sides of the saddle having substantially vertical faces.
The design provides a saddle for bicycles which presents to the eye an ornamental, distinguishing and characteristic appearance, varying from other designs of saddles in several general respects: first, that it is wider than it is long on the median line, that it has a forwardly-projecting pommel, and that it has substantially vertical sides and a rounding top.
*hat I claim is The design for a saddle, substantially as shown and described.
