To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OHARLns R. MARVIN, of Deep River, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pull-Handles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, whereby any one skilled in the art can make and use the same.

My invention relates to the class of devices that are more particularly intended for use on the valve chain or cord of a water-tank, although it is adapted for use or other like purposes of a handle.

My invention consists in the detail of the several parts making up the pull as a whole, and in their combination, as more particularly hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of my improved pull. Fig. 2 is a detail View in vertical central section of the pull. Fig. 3 is a detail plan View of the disk.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter 0. denotes the pull-handle, that is made, preferably, of wood turned to shape, and is composed, as to the body part, of the sections 19 and c. A pendant d is provided with a ring d or an opening through the upper end of the pendant forthe reception of a link or hook by means of which the handle may be secured to a valve cord or chain. This pendant forms part of or is secured to the upper end of a bolt 6, that extends lengthwise through the uppersection b of the handle and is secured by a nut or by riveting at the lower end of this section.

The lower section 0 of the handle forms a sortof cap that is preferably smooth asto the'outer surface and is recessed to fit upon a tenon b, projecting centrally from the lower part of the upper section b. The lower section 0 may be secured to the tenon either by means of a screw-thread on the interengaging parts or it may be fastened by glue or by a pin extending through the parts.

An annular buffer f of elastic material, as-

india-rubber, is located between the adjacent surfaces of the two sections of the handle in such manner that a portion of the outer edge of the ring projects beyond the periphery of the handle at its largest part. This annular buffer f has near its inner edge the flanges f, that fit into annular recesses in the opposite parts of the handle-sections in such manner that when the sections are secured together the buffer-ring will be held between the sections, as illustrated in the drawings, the flange of the buffer operating to prevent it from being pulled out of the socket. This manner of constructing the pull=handle with the lower end of the pull covered and concealed within the body of the handle prevents the sections from being separated by'any carelessness in use or by the removal of any attaching means at the lower end of the bolt. It enables a pull to be made with a comparatively unbroken outline, (except for the projecting bead formed by the buffer,) and the costlier grades of material can be employed without danger of loss by any accidental or malicious separation of the handle-sections in use. The manner of holding the buffer in place provides a simple, strong, and durable attaching device.

Although the method of securing the pendant to the upper handle-section by a bolt extending completely therethrough is illustrated herein, my invention is not limited to this precise detail of construction, as the pendant may be secured to the handle by equivalent fastening means, provided such equivalent means has the lower or inner end of the fastening-bolt concealed within the substance of the handle.

I also contemplate making a pull-handle in sections without the interposition of the rubber buffer between the upper and lower sections.

I claim as my invention- In combination in a pull-handle, the upper section, the bolt secured to said section, the lower section or cap directly secured to the upper section by interengaging parts, and the flanged annular buffer-ring held between the two handle-sections, all substantially as described.
