CARRIAGE-CURTAIN FASTENING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,970, dated August 1, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I HORACE ADNA TRIBOU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Machias, in the county of Washington and State of M aine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Carriage-(lurtain Fastenin gs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked'thereon. I

Figure l of the drawings is a portion of a carriage-curtain, showing my fastening complete. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation; Fig. 3, a view showing the pin removed, and Fig. 4. detail views of the pin and socket.

The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in carriage-curtain fastenings; and the object thereof is to provide a cheap, simple, and effective means .for securing the curtains of a carriage or other vehicle in a closed position when so required. These objects I. attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings, hereinafter described, and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents a portion of a carriage-curtain havingconnected to its outer side the metal plate B, formed circular, and having a central opening through it. Upon the opposite side of the curtain A, and directly opposite the plate B, is a plate, 0, also of metal, the material of the curtain being clamped between said plates, the latter being held together by spurs a, formed on the plate B, which pass through the curtain and are bent over and upon the rim of plate 0. The plates B 0 hold in position on the curtain A a socket, D, which is formed, near its open end, a

the plate 0 being so formed as to fit over said flange to retain the socket D in place, but allow it to be turned when fastening or unfastenin g the curtain by means of the thumb-piece c on the outer end of the socket. Upon the interior of the socket D projects a lug, d, to engage withan L-shaped groove, 0, in a pin, E, rigidly secured to the vehicle. When the curtain is being fastened the socket, by means of the thumb-piece c,is turned so as to bring the lug d on line with that portion of the groove 0 running lengthwise of the pin, when by a slight turn of the socket the lug will engage .with the other portion of the groove, and thus firmly lock the socket upon the pin.

By simply turning the socket D a sufficient distance to bring the lug d on line with the por tion of the groove running lengthwise of the pin the carriage-curtain may be unt'astened.

It will be seen by the foregoing that a simple and also perfect fastener for carriage-curtains is obtained, and one that can be readily and conveniently attached to almost any carriage-curtain without injury thereto.

Having now fully described my invention,

whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a curtain-fastening, the combination, with the stationary pin E, having the L-shaped groove 0, of the socket D, formed with thumbpiece 0, lug d, and flange b, for securing it to the curtain by plates B (J, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
