UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
To; all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. MALLERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Switch-\ Boxes and Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
l This invention relates to new and useful improvements in switch boxes and supports therefor, and my objectri's toprovide a device-oflthis .character which is simple and durable in constructiominexpensive to mannfactureandbne which is very efiicient in [practice i f 1 A still "furtherobjetof the invention resides in providing a-box'havinga plu-.-
nlay-- of tongues or "lugs i'formed thereon adapted to be engaged in slots 01'. the like formed-in supporting bars, and a'st ill-fuF ther object resides in-providing a-device so .formed from'a sin is" sheet-of material. Still another ob ect of'thisinvention' resides in the provlsi'on of a pair of angle 1 supporting bars having slots therein at the junctions of the faces'thereof adapted to receive the tongues formed-on the aforesaid boxes. w
With these and other objects in view, the. invention consists in the novel features of lso l construction, combmation and arrangement of parts as will be Hereinafter referred tol and more particularly pointed out in the 135 specification and claims.
' r In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the-device; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is' a vertical section through the device as seen 'on line 33, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of my improved switch box.
v In describing my inventionl shall refer to the drawing in'which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in whichl-and 2 indicate standards or portions of a framework spaced from one another and to which are secured the angle bars 3 and 4,-said angle bars'having the horizontally arranged faces thereof disposed inwardly and opposed to one another. The vertically arranged faces of said bars are provided with a plurality of openings5 arranged at regular intervalsthroughout the length of properly WILLIAM H. MALLEBY, or YoUNGsrowN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR or one-HALF. :ro ALICE L.\

SWITCH-BOX AND SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent. v Patented ltIaI, 18, 1913. I Application filed February 19, 1912. Serial No. 678,514. 3 i
the same -to receive therethrough screws 6, whereby said bars may be readily secured atany point throughout their length to the framework. These angle bars are spaced one above the other and at points wherein the faces of the bars meet, are provided a plurality of slots 7 arranged at regular in; tervals throughout the length of said bars, the purpose of which will be hereinafter and more particularly described. These =6 angle bars 3 and 4 are adapted to form 'sup porting means for my improvedswitch box 8 which is formed of a single sheet of metal. The side walls 9 of this receptacle-have the flanges 10 formed on the "upper and lower edges thereof which are bent inwardly towardone another to form apartial top and bottom, respectively, for the device ad acent-' the forward portion thereof,.while the rear wall 11 of the device has formed on the up 1 per-and lower edges thereof the flanges 1 2 and 13 respectively, said latter flanges be-. mg respectively bent over the flanges10 forming the top .and bottom of the device.
These flanges 12 and 13 which complete the 0 top' and bottom' of the receptacle, when folded over the flanges 10 are riveted, soldered or otherwise secured in position, as desired, and the free edges of each of the flanges 12 and 13 are provided re- 'spectively with upwardly and downwardly extendlng lugs 14;, which are adapted to be disposed through the slots 7 of the support.- ing bars 3 and 4. The free edge ofeach of the flanges 12 and 13 is also provided wit-ha central tongue 15, which tongues ex tend to the forward edges of the flanges 10, forming the front edges of the receptacle, and the tongue on the upperflange 12, is then bent upwardly, while the tongue on the lower flange 13, is bent downwardly to form the ears l6 and 17 respectively. These ears are also provided with the openings ;18 therein whereby a switch may be engaged with the same and the flanges 12 and 13 are 1 9 each provided with openings 19 to receive therethrough the cables 20, said latter openings having the peripheries thereof provided with prongs or otherwise corrugated,
for obvious purposes. As the bars 3 and 4 are provided with slots throughout the length thereof, it will be appreciated thatsuch a switch box, as
I have provided may be disposed at various points thereon, or a plurality of boxes may be mounted thereon and it will also be untherefor, but while I have particularly described the elements most well adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is .ob-
vious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spiritor sacriticing any' of the principles of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:-
l. A switch box comprising top, bottom, side and rear walls formed of a sin le sheet of material, the top and bottom being each -formed of flanges extending from the side and rear walls-of the box, means formed on the flanges of the rear walls for engaging" a supporting means, and. additional means formed on said last mentioned flanges for holding a switch. 1 V- 2 ..The combi nation with a pair-of angular orting bars spaced oneabove the other, saz bars being provided with slots at the intersection of the faces thereof; of a. box, the top and bottom of which is each provided with integral lugs adapted to bea supporting means, and tongues also formed on the free edges of said last mentioned flanges said tongues extending "to the forwar edges-of theaforesaid abutting flanges of said side walls and bent laterally: at such points. 4 In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signaturein the presence of two witnesses.
