IRONING-BOARD SUPPORT.

Application filed July 8, 1911.

To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE \V. Canvas, a citizen of the United States, residing in East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing- Board Supports, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to an improvement in collapsible ironing board supports wherein the support is comprised of a pair of upright members preferably made of wood, arranged at right angles to one another in the form of a T.

I provide adjusting and clamping means whereby I am enabled to attach my device in its entirety upon any convenient support, such as a table, wash tub cover, or other convenient support, and after so doing adjust or arrange the swinging member without remo'al of the ironing board or its clamped support.

In the drawings accompanying, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the device open for use. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device collapsed or folded. Fig. at is a fragmentary view of one end of my device.

In Fig. 1 is shown a support 1 which may be a table or any convenient means upon which is mounted my ironing board support At the back end of my device is a head-piece or board 8 to which is attached a casting A of suitably conformed metal, the same being attached to the headpiece by means of screws 5 or any suitable means, said casting having an overhanging portion 6 at the upper end thereof to engage into a mortise 7 which is cut into the head-piece 3. This method of fitting I have found to be satisfactory. At the outer end of the lug 6 of the casting A is an extension 8 of lug 6 which fits into a corre sponding depression or cut 9 in the longitudinal support member or board 10. This is for the purpose of registering the two boards when used in the normal position in the shape of a T, as indicated in Fig. 2, and acts as a stop against tilting of the board 10 under pressure applied at its opposite end.

ironing board clamping means is also placed at the upper end of the casting 4; and comprises a clamp member 14, the lower end of which is threaded as at 15, and is in adjustable engagement with a thumb screw 16, the outer end of said thumb screw being rotatably fixed in a lug 17 on the casting 4. A guiding member 18 having a hole 19 bored therein, but not threaded, acts as a guide and support for the lower end of the thumb screw 16. It is obvious from this construction that upon adjusting the thumb screw 16 the clamp member 14 is raised or lowered to rigidly hold an ironing board 20 of any ordinary thickness. A swivel bracket 21 is attached to the head-board 3 by means of screws and a corresponding swivel bracket 22 is also attached near the center of the extension board 10, in alinement with the bracket 21 on the head board 8. A wire swivel frame 23 is connected to the said brackets in swinging engagement therewith. and a hook member 24, which may be made of wire or like material, is in fixed engagement or driven into the head board A right angled hook portion of member 2 1 tits loosely into a hole .25 which is bored into the extension member 10, and this hook member 24: in conjunction with the extension 8 of the overhanging lug 6 of the casting it previously noted, preserves perfect alinement and rigidity of the two wooden frame members against ,any inconvenient movement when arranged in normal position. Should it be desired, however-,to utilize a shorter or a broader board, or one of unusual form, the extension member 10 may be swung around in the position A shown in Fig. 2, to thus properly support the same. It is obvious that this adjustment may be utilized with the frame 23 swung out to its fullest extent, or it may be swung entirely inward until it takes the folded position as shown in Fig. 3, when it then is ready to be stored away.

An iron holder 26 of suitable proportion and material is attached to one end of the head board 3 by suitable means, and in conjunction therewith may be fitted a swinging lubricant holder 27 carrying the usual wax ingredient, such as is used for the purpose. This wax holder is on a swivel frame and may be swung in and out to be used as required.
