To all whom it may` concern:
Be it known that I', HERBERT II."Winsnv,` a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and usefulv Improvement in Punching- Bag Platforms, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in punching bag platforms, and the objects thereof are to provide a new and eflicient manner and means for suspending a punching bag for use within a room orbuilding without marring or defacing the, walls thereof, or without securing attachments or hangers permanently to the walls of the room. Particularly, the object of the invention is to provide a compact and simple means for suspending a punching bag, such means to be readily attached or placed in position for use, and removed for storage in a box or receptacle when not in use. f
Another object of the invention is to provide a device adjustable to various heights and positions for the convenience of the user.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmental perspective ofl a door-way, showing a punch bag and a platform therefor embodying my invention. Fig. 2 Visa top plan view of the punching bag platform. Fig. 3 is a plan View of a modified form of platform. Fig. 4 is a side elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings, the punching bag platform constituting the present invention includes the annular ring 1 supported by wire spokes 2 from the hub 3. Hub 3 is hollow and extends upward, being provided with the clamp 4 whereby the upper brace 5, extending within hub 3, may be clamped in different positions relative to ring l. Brace 5 is provided with av C- clamp 6 by which it may be detachably secured to the upper part 7 of a door casing. To further support and maintain the stability of the device, I have provided side braces 8, 9, angularly extending from the periphery of the ring 1 and provided with C- clamps 10, 11, respectively, which are adapted to engage with side door- casingsJ 12, 13, respectively. Clamps 6, 10, 11, are provided with pads, preferably of felt, to prevent injury to the woodwork or finish of the door-way.v Each individual clamp may be screwed up tightly in accordancewith the 'variations in the door casing, thereby insuring -a rigid device when mounted' in position for use. The device may be mounted in an open doorway, the clamps 10, 11, having each a thin jaw adapted to pass between the edge of the door and the door casing. A punching bag 14 is suspended at the bottom of hub 3 in the usual manner.
In the modified form shown in Figs.3, 4, the ring 15 is centrally supported within the door-way and between clamps 16, 17, by braces 18. The hub `19, held concentric with ring 15, by arms 20, is provided with a clamp 21 at the top. An upright brace 22, provided with a clamp 23, is adjustable within the hub 19, being clamped in position by clamp 21. Clamps 16, 17, 23, are
provided with felt pads 24, which engage convenient to use, that is strong, light, compact, and that will not rattle when mounted in the operative position. What is claimed is:
1. A punching bag platform, comprising an annular ring to receive the impact ofv the -punching bag, a hub therefor, wire spoke elements supporting the hub Concentric with the ring, a clamp on the upper end of the hub, a brace extending within the hub, said brace being held in adjusted position by said clamp, angularly extending braces affixed to the periphery of the annular ring, and clamps mounted on the ends of said braces, said clamps beingadapted to engage with the side and top members of a door casing.
2. A punching bag platform, comprisingv an annular ring, a hub therefor, a brace eX- tending from the hub, braces angularly extending from the ring, and clamping means yaiiixed to the braces for detachably securing the platform in its operative position.y
3. A punching bag platform, comprising an impact ring, a. hub therefor, braces exicc tending from the hub and ring, iand clampbrace, angularly extending braces atliXed to l@ ing means carried by the braces for detachthe periphery of said ring, and C-clamps ably securing the impact ring in its operaaiixed to said angularly extending braces,
tive position. said last-named C-clamps having one jaw 4:. A. punching bag platform, comprising made thin for insertion between the end of an impact ring, a hollow hub therefor, the open door and the door casing. 15
spoke members centrally supporting the In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my hub, a brace clamped to said hub and eX- signature. o tending upward, a C-clamp affixed to said HERBERT I-I. WILSON.
