ARMORED GLOVE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 29,1912.

ZJMW 1 1 AF. Torrance.
/ ATTORNEY.
ADAM F. TOBRANCE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
ARMORED GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1913.
Application filed May 29, 1912. Serial No. 700,413.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM FRANCIS Tonnxxcn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and-useful Armored Glove, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer.- ence being had to the accompanying drawings, formin part of this specification.
My invention relates to an armoredglove, adapted to be used by grocers or others in removing dates, figs, or other articles which are tightly packed, from the boxes containing them.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one .form of glove made in accordance with my invention, Figure 1 is an elevation of the complete glove; Fig. 2 is a section of the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the member carry ing the claw; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the interior reinforcing member.
Like marks of reference refer to similar parts in the several views of the drawings.
5 represents the glove which may be made of any suitable flexible material, such as rubber, leather and the like, but preferably of rubber. Each of the fingers 6 of the glove is provided with armor which will now be described.
7 represents an outer member made of sheet metal and provided at its outer end with a claw 8. Adjacent to the claw 8, the
member 7 is provided with a recess 9 adapt ed to receive the ball of the finger. At its inner end, the member 7 is provided with a band 10, which completely surrounds the finger 6. Placed inside of each of the fingers G is a reinforcing member 11, which conforms to the body of the member 7 and is secured thereto by means of rivets 12 passing through holes 13formed in the members 7 and 11, the material of the glove being secured between the two parts, as best shown in Fig. 2. The reinforcing member 11 extends over the depression 9 in the member 7. and is provided with an opening 14 through which the ball of the finger projects into the depression 9. The extreme end of the reinforcing member 11 is provided with a backwardly curved portion 15 for embracing the end of the finger. The inner end of each of the members 7 is slightly curved, as shown at 16, so as to prevent cutting of the material of the glove when the fingers are flexed.
The manner of using the glove will be obvious. By securing the material of the glove between the outer member 7 and inner reinforcing member 11, a secure union between the parts is obtained. The band 10 prevents the armor from moving laterally, while the backwardly curved portion 16 prevents the fingers from being forced through the finger covering 6 when the glove is in use. At the same time, the depression 9 in the members 7 enable a firm grip to be secured so that the finger pieces do not. readily slip forward.
The use of my glove not only protects the hand from injury, but by preventing direct contact between the hand and the fruit, prevents infection or contamination of the fruit, and thus it is highly sanitary.
. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. The combination with a finger covering of flexible material, of a member provided with a claw positioned outside of said finger covering, a separate reinforcing member within said finger covering, and means for securing the material of the covering between said members.
2. The combination with a finger covering of flexible material, of a member provided with a claw positioned outside of said finger covering, a reinforcing member within said finger covering, both of said members being curved to con 0 for securing the material of the covering between said members.
3. The combination with a finger covering of flexible material, of a member provided with a claw positioned outside of said finger covering, said member being curved to conform to the finger-and having a portion thereof extending completely around the finger, a reinforcing member within said finger covering, said reinforcing member being curved to conform to the finger and extending only partly around the same, and means for securing the material of the covering between said members.
,4. The combination with a finger covering of flexible material, of a member provided with a claw positioned outside of said finger covering, said member being prorm to the finger, and means vided with an indentation to receive the ball of the finger, a reinforcing member within said finger covering, and means for secur ing the material of the covering between said members.
5. The combination with a finger covering of flexible material, of a member provided with a claw positioned outside of said finger covering, said member beingprovided with an indentation to receive the ball of the finger, a reinforcing member within said finger covering, said reinforcing member extending over the indentation and provided wit-h an opening registering with said indentation, and means for securing the ma terial of the covering between said members.
6. The combination with'a finger covering of flexible material, of a member provided with a claw positioned outside of said finger covering, a reinforcing member within said finger covering, said reinforcing member being provided with abackwardly curved portion embracing the end of the finger, and
finger, a reinforcing member within said finger covering, said reinforcing member ex- .tending over the indentation and provided with an opening registering with said indentation, said reinforcing member being also provided with a baekwardly curved porpositioned outside of said finger tion embracing the end ofthe finger, and
means for securing the material of the covering between said members.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and aflixed my seal. in the presence of the two subscribing witnesses.
. A. F. TORRANCE. [L. s.] Vitnesses:
