Description

i rinttml tatet eww @tithe `Enos T. "HIeHAM', or PHILADELPHIA,"PENNSYLVANIA, AssIeNon To HIMSELFVAND DANrEL HIGHAM, or SAME PLACE.
Letters"Patent` No. 105,573, datcflfJ'uly 19, 1870; aterlated July 1870.
IMPRovED SHADE-conn RETAINER.
The Schedule referred to inlthese Letters Patent and making part of the sume .,I, Enos T. HIGHAM, of Bhiladelpha, countyV of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Shade-cord Retainer' of which the-following is a specificationK i Nature and Object of the I invention.
with a wedge-shaped'bar, having a stud or its equivalent for receiving the shade-cord, the whole forming a y cheap, simple, and effective self-tightening cord-retainer. l
Description of `the Accompanying Drawing.
`Figure 1 is afperspective view of my improved shade-cord retainer, and y Figure 2, a verticalseetion of the same.
General Description. A is a plate secured to the window-i'rame,4 and havmg a yoke or staple-like projection, through .the front of which passes a thumb-screw. y
B `is` a metalrbar of the wedge sbapereprcsented and fitted snugly, but so as to slide freely in the yoke of plate A, the upper thin end of the xbar being provided witha suitable stud, d, round which passes the vshade-cord. E, and the lower and thicker end of the bar havingalue, which, together with the said stud (I, prevents the detachmentof the barl from the plate A.
Diliculty is--experienced with many ofthe cord-re- .tainers in vcommon use, to prevent the adjustable stud,
round which the cord passes, from slipping,"the necessaly tension imparted tothe cord frequently exerting such force on the stud and its appendages, that a sud- 'den releasing of the stud, and consequent running It will be seen that, in my device, the greater the tension im parted to the cord i down of the shade, takes place.
is, the tighter will be the hold ofthe bar, owingr to its wedge-like shape on the permanent plate A, and the tighter will be thescrew, owingto the actionof the wedge. Even'if the screw should accidentally become loose, it cannot permit the 'wedge-shaped bar torise to any great height, before it, as well as the screw, again becomes tighter.
Ola-im. V
The combination f a plate, A, yoke, a, and thumbscrew, b, or its equivalent, with the wedge-shaped bar Baudv the stud d, or its equivalents, for receiving the cord E.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speeification in presence of two subscribing witnesses. A
\Vitnesses: ENOS T. HIGHAM.
