a vertical central section, showing the device as supporting the broom.
This invention relates to a device for holding brooms, billiard-cues, or other articles desired to be suspended, the object being a holder which will allow the free introduction of the article to be suspended and retain the article, yet allow of its withdrawal by the exercise of very little force; and it consists in a socket of metal or any suitable material, into which is fixed an Indiagriber ring, out at one point, to allow its expansion, theinterior diameter of the ring being little less than that of the article to be suspended, the under side of the said ring being made concave or with an inwardly-inclined edge, so that the end of the article, being pressed up into the concavity,
will spread the ring, to allow the article to pass into the ring, the friction of the rubber being sufficient to retain the article.
A is the socket, constructed so as to be secured to the wall or whatever it may be. B is a ring of India rubber cut through at a, by preference on the front side, and made concave or with an invs-ardly-inclined.edge, as seen at cl, Fig. 2. This ring is secured in the socket by means of a screw, b, or other suitable device. The end of the article to be secured is entered on the under side, the concavity facilitating the entrance, and thus passed into the ring, the slit to opening for the purpose, and, when fully entered, the friction of the rubber on the surface of the article is sufficient to retain it in position yet not so strong as to prevent its withdrawal.
I claim as my inventionr The herein-described broom-holder, consisting of the socket A and India-rubber ring B,
